Was the Dean sequence a Fantasy?

I know this sounds very stupid to you guys who get it. But, once the fact that Charlie's lover was killed was revealed, I wasn't sure if Charlie actually did what he did to Dean. Was that just a fantasy?

Also, I must say, this was a great movie! The script was so intelligent...
Thanks!!

in my opinion he did do all that to dean (the one where he didn't kill him) but was simply "talking" to chris' spirit memorial site

The first scene, where he kills Dean, is fantasy. The second, where he doesn't, is real.
