Am I the only person who enjoyed this series???
shareWas this the first version you saw? I think comparing the 1998 series with the other films and the original stories is its downfall, because it shows up how very little the cast and writers understood the characters. I prefer the second series, which is ironically even further removed from Orczy's template - the last three episodes ditch nearly every detail of the novels except Sir Percy (and even then, only his name is familiar!), but at least the stories can be enjoyed as historical dramas loosely based on the Scarlet Pimpernel theme, without insulting the purists! Unfortunately, this second 'sinking ship', deserted by most of the rats - ah - cast, is mostly overlooked - it didn't even have a page on this website until recently!
The most inspired piece of casting in the whole series was Ronan Vibert as Robespierre! He was absolutely stunning, giving a subtle, convincing performance. Denise Black as Mam'zelle Guillotine was also superb, capturing the character perfectly.

Yes it was! I was about 12 when they realsed it..i think maybe younger but even now i still enjoy them, Do you recommed the 1998 version then?
shareI like it! It's dark but I think Grant's Percy is amazing.
Though I would love a new version that sticks to the characters of the book:)
