One of my favorite films.

This is one of the most underestimated films of all time. I don't see how this film went totally unnoticed by pretty much everyone. Samuel L. Jackson gives THE best performance of his career as Romulus Ledbetter - second only to Jules Winnfield in "Pulp Fiction". Kasi Lemmons proves once again that she's an excellent director, who strangely hasn't directed anything since this. The music by Terence Blanchard is also excellent. The cinematography is BEAUTIFUL. Everything about this film is excellent, although your suspension of disbelief will come in handy every now and again.

Totally recommended!

I can understand your feelings, allthough I wouldn't put it in my list of favourites. But indeed a very cool movie. Samuel does a real good job! Not the best, but very good. And it's entertaining.. I will recommend it!

Ever since I accientally surfed in on Jackson playing the sonata, I've been wanting to know what preceded it & followed it. Now I know. -Bill Costley www.billcostley.blog-city.com

I caught parts of this film a few months ago and just now had the opportunity to watch the wholw movie - it really is a fabulous film. Directing, acting, score, writing, storyline ..... all of it perfect.

I saw this movie right after it came out. I was recently talking with friends about acting integrity and I hammered this film. Samuel should have received an oscar nod. I just thought I would try to bring it back to the forefront.

I could not agree more, guys, this is truly a hidden gem for the movie watching public at large. About the only way this movie could be brought to the mainstream's consciousness would be to reissue the film in a special collector's edition, with updated interviews from the cast and crew. Maybe even a few TV ads to get things going. This movie deserves to be seen and recognized by more people.

The fact that it never received any Oscar nominations says more about the Oscars than anything.
