Boo Hoo Crying?

Towards the end (SPOILERS ) when Seth goes back to his dad, is his emotional breakdown supposed to be: (1) real (with actual bad acting) or (2) an act (with intentionally bad overacting)? I never understood this scene as Seth is supposed to be a tough, tightly emotional person, yet comes across quite silly in this scene.

Not sure I agree:
- How was he a loser? Not fitting in college is hardly a qualifier of it (how many CEO's like Gates dropped out also?)
- He didn't drop out because he couldn't cut it, he simply didn't fit in (so we're told)
- If he were such a loser, he wouldn't be able to operate a full time casino with employees and payroll
- Plus he was clearly the best trainee in the firm, we're told all the time

His emotional baggage was to earn his dad's respect. Remember he's Jewish, so having his dad's OK is of great importance. Especially if his father is somebody (federal judge IS being somebody, especially in their community). Him breaking down like that was I think the ONLY way he felt he could reach his dad in the end. And he was right since the father immediately realizes what his breakdown is all about.
