Truly awful decision

...by Heater-Quigley (whoever they were) to disallow Hanna-Barbera to use Dick Dastardly and Muttley in this series and awful decison by HB to use carbon copies Dread Baron and Mumbly. Or was this simply a big V sign to Heater-Quigley because they refused to co-operate?

I never realized that Mumbly wasn't Muttley until I would see them in the 13th issue of the Laff-A-Lympics comic books, along with Dick Dastradly and Dred Baron. Muttley had black ears was the most striking difference.

I knew Dred wasn't Dick, of course. I always took it the problem came from Paul Winchell, perhaps at that time he just wasn't wanting to do the cartoon voice again. I guess now I was in error.

Whoever the hold up was, it obviously was resolved, because Dick Dastradly, voiced by Winchell, was used in the Yogi's Treasure Hunt cartoons.

And even tho Mumbly was supposed to be a good guy from the Tom & Jerry, Grape Ape show, I don't think Dred was his villian there. I think that character was somebody else.

Would have to check to see who it was.

John Stephenson, the actor who did the voice of Dred Baron in Laugh a Lympics was also the voice of Chief Schnooker, Mumbly's boss. Schnooker wasn't really a villain but constantly tried to take credit for Mumbly's casesolving. He was sort of like the straight-man for Mumbly.

There was a bad guy who appeared who favored Dred Baron. I was told he wasn't called this same name. Something else like the Purple Pilot or something. I never watched Mumbly, so I always took it this bad guy character was a recurring bad guy. Aparently he wasn't.

Just looking at the Mumbly intro and a couple of eps in a foreign tongue reveal there were other bad guys.

Interestingly enough, one of them in there looks like Fondoo.

The comics later said Dread and Dick were brothers, so i guess if we want to fill in the blanks for an in-story reason, maybe Dread was jealous of Dick's friendship with Muttley, so he kidnapped and brainwashed mumbly?

I refuse to argue on IMDB until the general populous actually uses their brains

reply

The comic book rivalry was Dread frightened away Dick's betrothed on his wedding day by claiming Muttley in diapers and a bonnet was Dick's son.

Dick thanked Dread because the woman became the fat lady in the circus and Dick was glad he wasn't married to her now.

Nothing was said about Muttley and Mumbly being from the same litter or anything else. They were merely the brothers' dogs.

Like Dick thanked Dread. haha!

And guess I could have said it was in #13 of Laff-A-Lympics, last issue in that series, as well as the treasury edition.

#13 was the only time I ever saw Dick, Dread, Mumbly and Muttley all together like that.

And they were shown as some very ugly babies.
