Maybe I'm missing the joke...

Comedy is very personal I suppose. Vic & Bob make me laugh more than anything in the world but I have absolutely no idea why. Really, even the sight of them wearing the really long pointy shoes is enough to start me off.
Although I have to take up with your idea that they're not "random enough to be absurd", they're the kings of random! But they're not random for the sake of it, it all seems to make sense in some completely nonsensical way.

But I could see how they can leave some people completely cold, it can just seem like very silly, childish carry on. Maybe I'm just silly and childish (although I hate Dumb & Dumber, gross out humour).
For instance, I "get" the Office and I think it's an interesting character study but I don't find it remotely funny. I can relate to the situations and the characters but the most I can do is cringe at it.

But R&M are the purest form of humour I think, they're not trying to make political or social points, they're just being daft and hoping someone will laugh at it. And not everyone will find it attractive, but I don't think that makes you more or less clever. It's just a preference. maybe a bit like loving or hating olives or something :)

Okay, so I've started watching Shooting Stars on Wednesday and something must have clicked back in to place because I think it's filarious. I think I will give TSORAM another go.
