William miller somewhat unlikable

He had so many chances to get laid and he kept saying no even though the girls insisted. Damn dude you know how many guys would kill for that opportunity

reply

How does this make him unlikeable? To some people, sex is not the number one priority in life.

You're a 15 year old late bloomer/virgin and you're going to want to sleep with girls used to grown men/Rock Stars? Then have to listen to them compare you and gossip about it with the band later? Have the band bring it up and possibly publicly ridicule you? No thanks.

reply

I doubt the girls would have done that, they were just showing him a good time.

reply

Well I wouldn't have missed those chances for sure, but that doesn't make him unlikable.

Judging from your comments you would not have been a sweet kid, touchingly honest and rather shy and awkward (as many boys are at 15). You would have been a dreary, hormone addled horn-dog and probably not writing for Rolling Stone.

reply

Just because he wasn't ready (or even mature enough) to want to do that didn't make him unlikeable at all. His writing was more important to him, and that's really the thing that kept him from getting way too wrapped up in that lifestyle anyways. I still don't understand how the hell his mother could let him go around on tour with these rock stars she clearly thought were the devil to begin with--that part I never got. No way in heck would that ever happen today. I liked the kid, though, and thought he was kind of funny. Especially with how he had to deal with all the crazy adult stuff going on around him all the time. Thins got even more funnier when the lead singer wound up talking to his mother.

Having said all that, I liked the film, even though I did feel that it was watered down aomw, considering what I've read about how life as a touring rock musician really was in that era. Nice film, though. I have to admit that I didn't recognize Jimmy Fallon in it at all until I read the credits, and then I was like, "That was him? WTF!?" This was his first film, I believe.

Given the typical problems guys have with sex, would you really want your first experience to be with 3 very experienced girls? William had never even kissed a girl or dated.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

reply

He was 15, around rock-stars (which can be intimidating). And he came from a hard-line mother.

reply

He was an odd mix really, adventurous enough to hit the road with a rock band, not to mention get back stage in the first place. Yet innocent and moralistic enough not to bang every chick there. I think they had to make him that way to keep him sympathetic to the audience.

He was childlike though in appearance and behaviour.

reply

The only time William got me little angry is when he interrupted Penny during the song Tiny Dancer. Come on, just listen to the song and shut up.
