How much is this film based on the Allman Brothers band.

Billy Crudup's character looks like Dickey Betts(allman brothers guitarist).

Jason Lee's character looks like the late Berry Oakley(allman brothers orginial bassist).

"Red dog" Campbell is shown a few times through out the film a few times. He was a roadie for the ABB.

A song is heard by the ABB in the film and a picture of At the filmore east was on William's wall.

When Russell Hammond was on top of the kid's house screaming "I am the golden god" and "I'M ON DRUGS".

Gregg Allman said that his brother Duane did the exact same thing.

Cameron Crowe's experiences took him on the road with The Allmans and Eagles. Billy Crudup's character has been said to been modeled after Glen Frey.

Red Dog is indeed real.

I first saw "I'm a golden god" as a caption beneath a picture of a grinning Robert Plant, arms outstretched, on a hotel balcony. It was in an early '70s issue of Circus magazine; I still have it somewhere. I busted a gut when I saw that part in the movie.

I read about that episode years ago in a book about Led Zep. Dudes knew how to party!
