Criminally Underrated

Can you see? This is one of the 5 best sci-if entries in the 21st century and quite possibly Spielbergs last great entry in this genre. I am a little surprised by the IMDb rating being 7.7 but this site does not have the best track record for ratings. Anyone else think it is underrated?

I just watched today, really great movie can't believe it took me 14 yrs haha...most likely tom cruise going crazy a couple yrs after this buried it. I remember hearing great things about it when it came out but never mentioned amongst sci-fi greats.

I rewatched this today, after seeing it in the cinema in 2002. I remember it as being good, but not great. I was suprised to see I only gave it 6 back then. Would have rated it higher today. My only explanation is that people were over-fed on Matrix clones and sci fi around that time, like I Robot, Equilibrium etc, and that a 2,5 hour thriller with a murderless murder mystery and convoluted plot just didnt impress people.

Perhaps it's not "criminally" underrated (critics seemed to love it), but somehow it does feel underappreciated compared to Spielberg's more beloved films-and also other acclaimed Sci-Fi films of the last decade. This one sure holds up incredibly well.

You want something corny? You got it!

I agree. I didn't see it's greatness when I originally saw it because of all of Spielberg's 'crowd pleaser' gags (the spiders particularly annoyed me as well as some pretty cheesy 'chase' scenes.)

But I just saw it again, and it presents some mind blowing ideas in a digestible, but not dumbed-down, way.

And the -look-, the video displays, the backlighting, the colour grading. Much of the acting. Masterful.

BONUS: the scene with Dr. Hineman? They shoulda given that woman her own mini-Oscar. One of the most memorable acting jobs I've ever seen.

Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement... Listen, kid, we're all in it together.

What a load of bullshit. You were right the first time, it's typical Spielberg crowd pleasing trash.

For sure. I absolutely cannot believe it took me 14 years since this movie's release, to get around watching it. Now I wish I did sooner. Definitely one of the most underappreciated Spielberg/Cruise movies out there.

And to make matters even more worse for me, I'm a huge fan of both science fiction and murder mysteries. Amazingly, this movie is a combo of both genres, so bonus points. A combination of sci-fi, action, and whodunit mystery, all rolled into one nice little ribbon.

I like the humor in it, I'm glad to see some of that. I love that one scene where Anderton fights that Turbopack squad, they end up flying into this one apartment, and this woman's screaming "Go away! Get out of my house!" And this old man sitting in his chair is like, "Whatev's." It's like as if this wasn't the first time something like that had happened to that family.

And also, another bonus points for having Max von Sydow, definitely one of the very best actors out there. I wish he was my grandpa, he's that awesome.

But yes, Minority Report is awesome, definitely deserves more than a 7-star rating.

Peace out.

agreed, this is a classic

This movie isn't criminally underrated. It's pseudo sci-fi, like all of Spielberg's other efforts.
