I know I'm overthinking this but

bear with me for just one second.
The Sorceress was raped at a young age. Her coping method for this trauma was to objectify herself, and became an enchantress of sorts. This method of coping wasn't exactly healthy and certainly perpetuated the pain, but facing it seemed far more dangerous to her. Her seductive actions ruined families and provided a focus of despair to the village, even if she didn't deserve it all. It took a naive, loving, genuine man to be patient enough to show her love and help her undo the years of pain. It took her accepting this love to understand the man that he truly was. Mom's the only one to really get how noble his actions were at first.
Huh.

Or it was a straight forward kids story.

Namaste!

Don't worry, I wrote my university dissertation on Ocelot's works: mostly discussing the physical techniques but Kirikou is much more a display of symbolic techniques and I went even deeper in analysing them.

I don't think your interpretation is unreasonable. Given the movie, I would even think it was invited by the maker.

Rape did not come to mind when I saw what happened to Karuba in the flashback, but now that you mention it, it does make sense.
