I'm surprised to see so little discussion here. We rented from Netflix because son had to watch it for French class. Be sure to watch it in French, not dubbed in English -- the voices are so much better.
The art and story both are wonderful. I loved the adaptation of Rousseau's style into animation.
Well - I'm from USA and have 2 girls (9 and 5). They've both watched and the 5 yr old had a more enjoyable time. I think the 9 yr old over-sexualizes the movie. I had a neighbor kid over and knew the mother would be upset at me for allowing her daughter to watch.
I LOVE the movie and don't see anything wrong with allowing anyone to watch it. However, in the US, there are many uncultured, uneducated people here. I can't 'explain' this movie to them. Either: you get it, or you don't. The bad part is that there are so many who do not even want to give it a chance. So sad.
I feel my children are blessed in knowing and seeing this film. I recommend everyone to have an open mind about it. I LOVED it!
I forgot about this movie. I think I saw this film on Starz! Black. And i loved it!! The title character was the cutest little thing. Would love to see it again!
I guess that's the result of a society diabolizing all nudity. Proof that it does more harm than good. There's no sexual overtones in this film, not a single sexual scene or theme. It truly saddens me to think that american children can't think of nudity as something innocent, and that Kirikou can't be shown on public television because of some depraved censors.
I just watched this movie a few minutes ago and I think it's a good film. I didn't think of the nudity in it as sexual either and was not offended. Too me, this is a good folk-tale!
