No one liked it?

I'm shocked to find such a mob-like-hatred for this film. Personally I thought it was one of the coolest post-Tarantino crime flicks to emerge. I mean what is not to love? Eveything about this film just oozed midnight madness originality.

I guess the marketing campaign slanting it toward a horror-genre film did nothing but damage it's reputation. But please take another look!

I come equally from the world of Argento, Deodato, Lieberman, Takashi, Fuller, as I do from the world of Bergman, Vischonti, Wenders, Fellini and Kurosawa.

and in my opinion there's no way to deny...

This movie was *beep* genius!

Well... I'd admit that my prejudice centers on the fact that I'm a hardcore horror fan. I rented the film on some wild remembrance of the Creepshow and Tales From the Crypt productions. There was a short called, "The Crate" that this movie reminded me of. It was a complete disappointment. And to even compare this movie to a Reservoir Dogs Tarantino crime flick is an insult to movies. And Kurosawa is the straw that breaks me.

The only midnight madness that could possibly occur is the kind that occurs when you're alone in the dark ... with noone to enjoy it with. What a great way to celebrate the advent of the cinema, sitting by yourself watching an Alien Resurrection-esque love scene with an alien.

God bless America.

I thought it was alright. Haven't seen it in like 5 years or more, but I remember thinking it had a Tarantino-esque style as well.
I also remember being disappointed and a little confused as well. It definitely had the potential to be way better, but it devolved near the end into kind of a mess.
*SPOILERS*
The worm having sex with the chick at the end was pretty *beep* confusing/weird as well.
I gave it a 4 out of 10. I can't believe that some people are calling this the worst movie they have ever seen. Clearly they haven't seen Epic Movie.

I hated the film. It's been a while and I was pretty young when I saw it though. I had such hatred for it, I don't think I could watch it again in order to reconsider my hatred.

I really like it as well. I go back and watch it every now and then. People that say "even the running looked fake" blow my mind. Deep down, and it's disappointing to say, I think the main reason people hate this film is because it was made during the dawn of indie digital features, and it looks VERY video - therefore very cheap. But I find the story, characters, and style really engaging.

Haven't seen it in about 10 years but I remember it very well. Can't remember specifically if I liked it or not but it was certainly unforgettable. Particularly that worm on woman sex scene at the end. I will never forget that. I will say that this is not the worst out there. Whoever says that hasn't seen The Meateater, or Axem, or Lunch Meat, or Last House on Dead End St, or Blood Shack, or Psycho Ward, or Pot Zombies, or Criminally Insane 2. Yeah, I could go on.

I'm just a guy that likes horror flicks.

I've seen it when it was a new release, 1 month before on a promotional tape.
I thought that the box art was so ordinaray, almost repulsive, but the story seems ok and I wanted to watch a film and I was in the mood to deal with something bad or just plain ordinary but from my expectations, I've been blown away. Did not seem it since, but I own it. I know I will watch it again with someone that would never watch that movie alone. It have that serie b-z feels, but it have the potential to be a cult serie-B masterpiece. I was surprised and had a good time!
Loved the characters, I see the Tarantino feel and the Robert Rodriguez's too.

I liked it! It was so freakin' weird! I won't say it's quality, faaaaaar from it, but that's what I love. The worm thing sounded like Gir, the fight with the Trannies was hilarious, it was just a straight up fun movie!

Hey, I liked it a lot! Not what I expected from the cover and blurb, but very cool.

The acting was SO bad. The writing was pathetic. The monster was laughable, and there wasn't a likeable character in the movie. In all seriousness...what IS there to like about this movie?

reply

What you call "ozzing originatly" I call shameless rip-offs. Everything in that movie, besides the 25lb Telepathic Worm Alien, was stolen from other better movies. Lots of Tarantino style witty pop culture referencing dialogue was taken from all Tarantino's films, the super gush of blood anytime someone gets shot is taken from Japanese slasher and or mob films, the really stupid way the characters glide around in that alley was stolen from Japanese Vampire films (I think), and the Lazy Fade-To-Black over the sound of a gunshot ending was taken right out of a bad screen writers how-to book. All these stolen ideas add up to a very cliché movie, that was clearly made by a Film School Student.
But that's my opinion. I ain't an Expert, but I know bad movie when I see one.
