DVD please!

Why isn't this powerful movie available in DVD format? I saw "Est-ouest" four times in one week when it played at the local Landmark Theatre. A brilliant tour-de-force that is riveting and deeply moving. WHAT DOES ONE HAVE TO DO TO IMPLORE THE MARKETING SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTION TO GET THIS MOVIE RELEASED?

Have you tried amazon ?
amazon.com has it in NTSC format DVD.
amazon.fr has it in PAL format DVD.

It is not yet out in Blu-ray or HD-DVD, but that's not surprising. The format war for high definition is not yet over (though I hope Blu-ray wins) .

Amazon states REGION 2 ENCODING. [This DVD will not play on most DVD players sold in the US or Canada (Region 1.) This item requires a region specific or multi-region DVD player and compatible TV.] My Philips DVD player and VCR combination in the manual reads that DVDs must be labeled for ALL regions or for Region 1 in order to play on the DVD player. You cannot play DVDs that are labeled for other regions.

This was released in the US on dvd in 2000. After about 5 years it went out of print. There are plenty of copies out there, but you may have to search around for a while or pay a high price. You might have better luck renting it.

Hi! I first saw this movie in 1999. Been looking for the DVD for 11 years, this year finally I bought the Region 2 DVD which included english and spanish subtitles.

Don't worry about the Region 2 code. Almost all DVDs now are Region free, if not, you can always hack it to make it free, plus new DVDs can handle both NTSC and DVD.

Try on Amazon, or better yet, on eBay :D
