Worst Subspecies in the Series!

Subspecies 4 so sucked, so many parts in this were just awful. Like in the beginning of this Radu comes back to life by cooling off in the water right under him when he was burnt from the sun in Subspecies 3 but right at the end of Subspecies 3 Radu melts and turns into a whole bunch of little subspecies. What was Ted Nicolaou (the writer/director of the series) thinking. And there was also stupidly no little subspecies guys in Subspecies 4! He makes three amazing vampire movies and turns the 4th installment into *beep* All those Vampire Journals characters that were in Subspecies 4 were retarded and just made the story stupid. He should have put more characters like Mummy into the story. And the setting and places they shot in were way better in the first 3 movies. Hopefully they can all get around to making Subspecies 5, prequel or not I just hope it gets made.

I agree S4 was easily the worst in the whole series and even though I really liked Vampire Journals I really didn't like them tieing the movie into the Subspecies series at all.

I also did not like this movie. I hate it when characters are created in sequels and then treated as though they've been there from the beginning. If Ash and his sanctuary were there from the beginning, why did Radu have to race the sunrise to get back to the castle if he could have just stayed there? There were many things about this movie that were weak. Other than Radu and Michelle, the characters were all awful. I watched it a few times hoping to like it better when I first got it, but now it just sits on the shelf collecting dust. I watch I-III over and over, however.

If they do decide to make a Subspecies 5 (though it doesn't seem likely now that its been what, a decade?), I sincerely hope they look at I, II and III more closely when they're writing it and keep it true to the story - not make up a bunch of crap that never existed in the first 3 and try to play it off as always being part of the story.

This movie was terribly bad and, in my opinion, is an insult to the Subspecies series!

Again, just my opinion :)

It is definitely the weakest entry to the series by far. But it still has it's moments. The atmosphere is still there like it was in the first three and also in the spin off. I think the biggest mistake was killing off Mel (Kevin Blair aka Kevin Spirtas). I don't watch the first three and pass this one over. I always watch all of them in the right order.

Subspecies.
Bloodstone: Subspecies 2.
Bloodlust: Subspecies 3.
Subspecies 4: The Awakening.
Vampire Journals.

That's the correct order of viewing going by how the storyline goes.

Ash is alive at the end of Subspecies 4. And yet he gets killed outright at the end of Vampire Journals. This is why I say VJ is the final entry to the series

I thought part 1 was okay. Part 2 was the best for me. Part 3 was bad, not as bad as part 4 though. Sadly these movies could never evolve seeing as how they're direct continuations of the previous instalment. In part 4 he tried to expand but failed. These new characters couldn't keep the series fresh. Perhaps if we had a different plot... or an actual plot, things could be different.

Journals and bloodstorm in my opinion were the best

"Stay forever Brutal"

Bloodstorm is a weak effort but none of the films are all that great anyway (2 > 3 > 1 > 4 > Vampire Journals) - they all have their heavy-handed reliance on cliches and some truly awful performances. Thankfully it's low budget schlock level horror so it's forgivable (up to a point, anyway).

I must disagree. I did not know anything about the subspecies movies until I watched this movie on the syfy channel! Also, this is actually part 5 on the Subspecies saga. Even though in "Vampire Journals" there was no Radu or Michelle, it should have been renamed Subspecies 4. This vampire anthology was well written, and with the right budget would have made the "Twilight" movies look like "Sixteen and Pregnant with My Vampire Boyfriend".

The Vampire Journals is considered a spin-off and it should stay that way (the film's very existence screws with the timeline of Subspecies 4, which in a perfect world would have been released before the Vampire Journals but unfortunately that just didn't happen).
