Info. on Subspecies 5 from the Subspecies Blu-ray Collection

Director/Writer Ted Nicolaou and Cast Members Anders Hove and Denice Duff talked about "Subspecies 5" in the audio commentaries and featurette included in the Subspecies Vol. 1 Blu-ray/DVD collection.

In the featurette, they said that the script was written "years ago" and it's a prequel about the origins of the vampire Radu and what drove him to become the villain in the series.

They said that it hasn't happened yet because they "want to get everything right" and give the fans "a killer sequel" waiting for the right time to do it.

At the end of the Subspecies III commentary they all expressed interest in coming back for "Subspecies 5" and Ted Nicolaou said if you want it to happen you have to "send Charlie Band a note, with like 2-3 dollars, and hopefully we can then make it happen."

So for those who want some info. on "Subspecies 5" that's what was mentioned about it. The featurette and commentaries were recorded around Oct. 2012.

The sad part is that Radu's origins were somewhat covered in the old Full Moon Subspecies comic. I'm skeptical toward whether a film version can do it more justice, since it wasn't very interesting on paper to begin with.

Before Subspecies 4 was actually released I took the advice of Nicolaou (I think it was in one of the featurettes on the Subspecies 3 VHS release) and sent Full Moon a letter expressing how they absolutely needed to make a fourth film happen. I got a response back from someone thanking me for the interest and a pack of Puppet Master trading cards (sadly I no longer have the letter or the cards).

If they were to slap it on the likes of Kickstarter and offer up a means for fans to decide whether they'd want to see a prequel or a better concluding chapter than what was delivered by Subspecies 4 then I'd definitely be one to pick the latter.

While I don't think a fifth film will be made, at least not one including Ted and Anders, but from what I've heard of the plot, the prequel actually sounds better suited for a film about Radu's father Vlad. Course there's obviously more to it, I'm just saying.
