DVD Set Coming from WBSHOP (possibly September)

This links to a story about Pirates of Darkwater, but if you read down a little Thundarr is mentioned as one of next shows to possibly be released. The only downside is these will be not be in retail stores and will be DVD-R.

I'll check here from time to time. It could have lots of cool extras and such, but we'll see.

Definitely looks good! Time to retire my "un-official" set I bought on ebay years ago. Too bad they couldn't throw that "Lords of Light" special feature from the Saturday Morning Cartoons on there.

I've also discovered Flight of Dragons is available. Good news!

I received the set from Warner Archives today. The video looks great, better than when I watched it when originally broadcast. The only negatives are that they are DVD-Rs, and there are no extras. But definitely worth getting, especially with a code to bring down the price. At least we have the Lords of Light special feature from Saturday Morning Cartoons-1980s.

Now I just need Jabberjaw and Pac-Man. Yeah, they weren't great shows, but I really like them, and they have made no appearance on DVD yet.

They are DVR-Rs. They are "burned" by Warner Archives, not stamped from a mold like a normal DVD. So the back surface has a bluish tinge, not silver: I'm sure you've seen other DVD-Rs. Some people think they are more delicate. Try to avoid scratching them. They were held very tightly by the case, they weren't going to dislodge shipping, but were a little hard to get out when I got them. Better than being scratched shipping.

The top surface isn't blank like a store-bought DVD-R, but isn't too exciting, there's no picture, just text on a blackish background.

There are five or six episodes per disc. The menus are very generic, only to play all or pick an episode. But I'm thrilled to get the actual episodes, which look very good. Focus on what really matters. I did have them from a torrent before, and these are much higher quality.

I ordered them on Friday, Sep 24th. The release/shipping date was supposed to be Sep 28th. But they shipped them on Friday, Oct 1st and I received them on Mon, Oct 4th. I don't know if the delay was because of a delay in having the episodes ready for burning, burning on demand for me, or what. But it didn't take that long. It's worth the wait.

I hope this is enough of a success that they do this with other series I want. Of course I'd prefer general release DVDs, but that might not be a reasonable assumption even if they didn't do this. It may be a choice between this or nothing. And if this isn't enough of a success, nothing is what we'll get for other series we want. I'm glad they picked Thundarr for one of the first ones, it was one of the greatest Saturday Morning cartoons, and really deserved a release of some sort.

I ordered mine on Sept. 28th but it still hasn't shipped. I contacted them yesterday and was informed that there has been a delay, and it will ship out whenever they get them back in stock. Seems a little odd that it still shows where it "ships within 3 days" though...

Thundarr and Pirates of Dark Water coming to DVD? It's like a dream come true.

Sorry to hear that. :( Hopefully your set will arrive to you soon. When it does, feel free to post your thoughts about it here. :)

Maybe they sold out of their sets so quick that they needed to take a few days and burn more copies. lol

The funny thing is that it arrived in the mail the very next day, and had actually shipped earlier that week. I didn't even get a "Your order has shipped!" email until the day after I'd already received it!

I just got through watching all of the episodes, and it's great to see them all again after so many years. For the most part, they look great and the A/V presentation is very nice.

I did notice some weird encoding flaws on the 4th disc where the picture pixellates/blurs a few times quite severely; mainly that was in the first episode ("Island of the Body Snatchers") on the disc. No big deal or anything and often it was only for a few seconds here and there, but it's worth mentioning.

I noticed the same thing on the 1st episode of the fourth disc, but I can deal with it. Luckily, that was the only one.
