Most memorable scene

What is all of your most memorable scenes from the game? For me it was when Wolf shot Meryl a few times and Snake could not do a damn thing to help her or he'd get killed himself. I thought it was a very emotional scene and is a good reference to what makes MGS so great.

Life's a bi*tch. Then you marry one.

I like the final conversation between Raiden, JFK and Rose. It's kinda creepy when JFK turns into that skull-like image, either that or when the President explains the Patriots to Raiden or when Ocelot explains it in further detail.

But for MGS, it would have to be when Master calls about Naomi. I like parts in a video game or a movie when the plot twists and things get kinda crazy.

"There's no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid people." -Mr. Garrison (South Park)

reply

the sadest scene for me was watching ninja die cause i always (and still do) think he is the coolest NPC (excluding special missions)

reply

The beginning of MGS2, with Snake on the bridge...

...and Snake's HALO jump in MGS3.

reply

I cant belive nobodies menchened Sniper Wolfs death, so sad!

Taxi Driver #8
"Gentlemen, you cant fight in here, this is a WAR ROOM."

reply

The most memorable scene for me can happen any time you want, it goes:

---------------------------------
The unsuspecting guard walks down the hallway, he notices a strange out of place object and goes to investigate.

'Huh?' The guards says to himself.

He goes closer for a better look. It's a strange rectangular object, finally recognition dawns on him.

'Hmm, just a box.'
---------------------------------

Best MGS moment ever.

Another favourite of mine, is Grey Fox going nuts after you beat him on the second floor basement, as a matter of fact, pretty much the whole battle.

'HURT ME MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!!!!'

Out here in the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we are stone, immaculate.

I like that "And this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper" quote, too. With that music playing in the background, it gave me goosebumps

Who says that? I didn't think any ex-special forces people read Eliot except for Captain Willard.

Wow. Someone who finally likes the same scene as me. I love that conversation. Everything about it is deeply profound and moving. I like these parts the most though:

"And this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper."

"So you see Jack, we're not the ones smothering the world.....you are."

reply

my favorite scene is the conversation between snake & the secretary of defense be4 snake and liquid have it out in the final fight, the backround musik was creepy, but it was the most intense part of the game.

reply

Easily the scene after the 2nd Vulcan Raven battle. Snake, with his back turned, walks away from Raven as he is giving a dying speech. And through this, VC is being picked apart by a swarm of ravens, unfazed. Powerful image.

reply

Yes, that conversation is good and Liquids speech about them and their history together.
An even better scene comes right after that; the hand-to-hand match between Solid and Liquid, starting with Liquid pressing the button which set off the three-minute timer on the bomb next to Meryl. You can only hear a distant hiss of the wind and the seconds counting on the timer as Liquid tells you the parameters of this final battle between them. Seconds seem like hours before the battle actually commences.

Liquid: "Have at you, Snake!!"

This raises my pulse every time I play it...

reply

the entire 45 minute sequence between the defeat of the metal gear RAYs and the final battle with solidus in MSG2.

"Metal Gear Solid and Entourage...what else do you need?"

reply

Hey, I know we haven't posted here in a while but I thought I'd tell you this: When I was in jail I read a lot and I read an intense amount of poetry and realized that this where the quote is from. It's from The Hollow Men by T. S Eliot.

Probably Vamp slaughtering SEAL Team Alpha in MGS2

my favorite and most memorable is definately the hallway scene with gray fox right before you get to Otacon..."It's a ghost!" i loved that

"A heavy cost...I pay it, gladly." -John Preston

reply

the end of MGS 2 (or Metal Gear4)

Otacon:
Snake, you there? It’s me.
Otacon:
I’ve finished going over that disc.
Snake:
Did you find the Patriots’ list?
Otacon:
Of course.
Otacon:
It contained the personal data of 12 people.
Otacon:
There was a name on it - Snake, it was one of our biggest
contributors.
Snake:
What’s going on around here?
Otacon:
I don’t know...
Snake:
...Anyway, where are they?
Otacon:
Well, we were right about them being on Manhattan, but...
Snake:
But what?
Otacon:
They’re already dead. All twelve of them.
Snake:
When did it happen?
Otacon:
Well, ah, about 100 years ago.
Snake:
What the hell...

-in mgs1 during the battle with psycho mantis when he reads your memory card. i had iss saved on it and he said 'oh i see your very good at football'. that was so cool.

-in mgs2 when snake jumps off the tanker after liquid/ocelot who is in metal gear ray. the bit with just raiden standing on arsnel gear and a huge big splash of water comes surging up in front of him was unforgettable.

-in mgs3 when ocelot/the guards/dogs are chasing you down the tunnel and snake jumps off the waterfall at the end of it. i love the way the people on the codec are telling you to run and you can hear the echos of the dogs barking.

reply

MGS1: Got to be Sniper Wolf's death. When Otacon runs up and collapses on his knees while that music starts playing. "Why? Why? I loved you."

MGS2: The slow-mo shot of Snakes hand cuffs breaking apart on Arsenal gear, then when he runs and dives over the edge. Also when Raiden beats Solidus, when Solidus falls in slow-mo of federal hall and then Raiden swipes his sword down.

MGS3: Probably Big Boss in front of Bosses grave at the end. With the music and as he salutes with the quote: "She was a true patriot". Its great.

The scene where Snakes breaks down after he realised that Meryl is dead.
Otacon comes, and having a realy emotional dialogue with him about life and death, where he tryes to talk Snake over to live on.
To the powerfull sad score.

Dawn of the Dead ´78 is the best movie ever.

reply

MGS1 - If you submit to the torture, then Snake mourning Meryl's death
MGS2 - Emma Emmerich's death

"Metal Gear! It can't be..."

reply

MGS1: Snake popping out of the water at the begining with that vocal tune playing...

MGS2: The scene in the tanker when you hear the announcment about having passed the Verrazano Bridge checkpoint.

Those giraffes you sold me, they won't mate. You sold me queer giraffes.

reply

Ninja Hallway, all the dead guards everywhere and the tune that plays is just awesome

MGS1: When Snake takes the freight elevator down to the Raven battle, very atmospheric, then comes Raven's great speech. Also when snake is listening to Liquid and Ocelot in the command room where metal gear is, when Liquid says "this place will be named...Outer Heaven" Chilling.

My favourite scene ever has to be the moment in MGS 1 when you put the card key into the machine to deactivate Metal Gear only to have it start up:

Snake: "I deactivated it!!!"

Then Master reveals who he really is:

Colonel: "Snake, you've been talking to..."
Master: "Me - dear brother"(takes off his sunglasses to reveal he is Liquid)
Snake: "Liquid?!! How the...?!!"
Liquid: "You've served your purpose. You may die now."

Priceless.

Metal Gear Solid (Original PS1):

I remember having a 'chipped' (as we Scallywags in the UK called 'em) Playstation, and my older cousin used to get, literally, every game that came out for like, a £1. I'd seen a front cover of I think it was Playstation - Official UK Magazine, with Ninja on the front, I don't remember the title but it definatley pointed to something good.
It was a dark autumn friday night 1998, I'd done my homework ALREADY ahead of the weekend (Only time I'd ever done that). My Mum shouted up to my room that "Are Jamie" was coming down to sleep so I went down for some Indian Takeaway with my folks and "Are Jamie" came in.
The FIRST thing he said, before even "hello" or "Thank you for having me" to my parents was..."Craig, I've got the best game EVER made man!...Come on, let's go to't games room!"

So I was like "Fair Enuff!"
My parents musta been like, "Those kids are weird".
Aaaaanyways...Are Jamie cued it up, Turned off all't lights (which I thought was a bit extreme for a computer game but now I do it EVERYTIME I visit Shadow Moses) We had Mars Bar Milkshakes, Boxes of Maryland Cookies and some Wham! Bars...And then I heard something for the first time, and it sent a shiver down my little spine.
It was the "Doo-Doo-DO! - Doo-Doo-DO! - Doo-Doo-DO! - DO!-DO!-DO!" (Echoes...)

I knew I was in for something special from even THAT moment and ever since that day, I have NEVER felt that connection with a game, maybe even a movie.
(Except for maybe the Sons of Liberty realease day when I camped outside Electronics Boutique...But that, as they say, is a different story.

"Starting tonight, I will die!...I'm a man of my Word."

reply

Sorry for the EPIC tale there, but I seriously adore every one of these games. Hey, I coulda' easily put one of these stories for every scene of the game it's that good. lol.

Here's my Most Memorable Moments of the Others in the Series...

MGS2: Sons of Liberty -
"VEREZANO BRIDGE CHECK-POINT PASSED!!! ALL NONE ESSENTIAL PERSONAL TO REPORT TO HOLDING BAY FOR THE SCHEDULED BRIEFING WITH THE COMMANDANT..."
This, coupled with the passing into a new unexplored part of the Tanker and the timing of the music...just...so awe inspiring.

MGS3: Snake Eater -
The EPIC Ladder Climb. Fair enough, not much in the way of interest and interactivity but, man does that scene build atmosphere.
Oh, and the fact that I was really dissapointed that the theme from the first Trailer didn't feature almost all the way thru, UNTIL...When the Shagohod comes back for ONE LAST STAND and then it hit! What a rush man! I love that theme.

"Starting tonight, I will die!...I'm a man of my Word."

MGS:
1. ''I finally understand. I wasn't waiting to kill people. I was waiting for someone to kill me. Someone like you. You are a hero.''

MGS 2:
1. ''She is Lady Luck!''

MGS 3:
1. 'She was a true patriot.''

Use the Force, Luke.

reply

Metal Gear Solid
Psycho Mantis's introduction or Sniper Wolf's death. Two very different moments.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
The revelation of the Colonel (and possibly Rose) to be AI.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The ending

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
To be honest, I didn't really like this installment very much, and it's hard to pick out a particularly memorable scene.

EDIT:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Visting Shadow Moses again...it was just so incredibly nostalgic...

Snipers Wolf death, so chilling and sombre with the wolves howling and the beautiful white-washed surroundings.
I thought Snake Eater had a nice touch when The Boss died and her Horse Cried out. Nice call back between the two stories there.

"We're gonna find out who did this... and we're gonna kill 'em!" - Vic Mackey

reply

Sniper wolf's death def the best of the series.
then otacon crying out that he loved her.

Nice touch after The Boss's death in MGS3 how the flower petals turn from white to red as the plane takes off.

reply

Sniper-Wolf's death seems to be a very common "Favorite Scene"

And I can understand why...

reply

MGS1: It has to be the codec conversation with the Secratary of defense. I was incredibly surprised and enjoyed this plot twist more than any other in the series.

MGS2: The Scene where Ocelot takes over Metal Gear RAY. It has some significance to me because before i lived where i did now, i always used to go over to my friends house and he was hooked on Metal Gear. He had been playing SOL for hours that day and it climaxed on that particular scene. I had never actually played any Metal Gear Solid games until 5 years after that so the scene holds some memorableness to me.

MGS3: My favorite Metal Gear game, nothing beats the scene with EVA's betrayal and The Bosses redemption

What doesn't kill you only makes you... stranger - Joker

The entire Psycho Mantis confrontation. Surprised no one else has mentioned this.
