Worst film of all time?

I don't understand how this movie was made. I understand that child
actors aren't supposed to be great, but where was the direction in this
film. This was the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. Reeves'
is the worst successful actor in Hollywood. It wasn't just the acting
though. The script itself was baseless. There was no character development, no plot development. Just big, fat, gaping holes all throughout. Bad scrip + bad actors + awful direction = bad movie. Just awful. The director of this film ought to be locked up.

I thought Keanu was pretty good in this movie. Other than that, you're right: this is one of the worst things I've ever seen. The script, character, and plot development didn't exist. It was just crap.

I have never seen Star Wars, so I wouldnt know anything about light-sabers. I do know that this story has significant gaps and Keanu Reeves. Between the two this movie is damned to film hell.

Heeecks No. People who watch movies while rating it about its acting, plot, "gaping holes", etc just dont plainly enjoy movies. Just watch the movie, enjoy, have fun, cry etc. Just have fun.

reply

Agreed. Horrible acting by the always-horrible Keanu Reeves. Check out the scene with Diane Lane outside Sluggers: How many stiff-armed shrugs and 'emphasis arms' moves can one make in 2 minutes? Keanu sets the record!

Absolutely HORRIBLE.

Forget about KR and DL!! This is a story about a group of young black kids from a very horrible living environment. Can you even relate to that. Show a little heart yourself. This was a very, very good movie. I loved the whole story! And I think KR was actually suited to this role!!

So, I'm wondering - if there an imdb requirement that every movie get a post of this type?

A movie is thier to entertain you...i thought this movie was great.

I was suprised how much i liked this movie when i watched it last night! this has become one of my fav Reeves movie. I myself am a Reeves fan, and i can not figure out what all these people are seeing. "This guy sucks, he shows no emotion whatsoever!!!" what movies are you watching? i cryed during that scene where he makes the speech at the funeral!

but i do kind of agree with the whole hand gesture thing. i kept thinking 'dude, it's a baseball movie, not a basketball movie, put your arms down!'

I want to make a 40,000 piece puzzle that, when you finish it, says, "GO OUTSIDE"

I agree with johnpaul. Thought the acting was really bad.

I was an extra in this film but I can't bring myself to sit through an entire Keanu Reeves movie just to get a glimpse of myself on the screen.

reply

HOW can you NOT like this movie. this is my 2nd fave movie. i love it. i guess every1 has a different oppinion but i mean why????

1. stand by me
2. hardball
3. the butterfly effect

reply

Okay, you asked. This is how I can not like this movie: Call me too serious, but this movie offends me. In the first scene where you see the kids, the you can't understand anything they say except b*tch. A few scenes later they're all using the king's english, perfectly! Why? Because a guy that couldn't care less about them has turned them all into model citizens. He overcomes his gambling addiction overnight by---gambling! And winning at the final buzzer! For no apparent reason, within days, the team goes from not being able to play to a major threat in their league. Please keep Keanu out of the hall of fame.

reply

That post was one of those things that makes you say... Wow... that was racist.

reply

I don't believe this guy who says he was in it and hasn't seen it. no chance..

I am proud to say that I enjoy Keanu Reeves. obviously not the most talented guy in Hollywood.. but always entertaining.

I also pride myself in knowing good movies when I see them, and clearly this is not an Oscar calibur movie, but I loved it. it's fun, it's sad, it's about baseball,, the kids were fun. Diane Lane is just too attractive.

it's a good watch. not an incredible movie, but I still love it.

i loved this movie, it was amazing

I worked in a movie theater around the time this came out, and I would swear to God that this film came out the exact same weekend as The Glass House, another Diane Lane film. Anyone else confirm my memory as correct? I have never seen Glass House but I know she's in it, and i thin they both came out September 14, 2001.

white people jus dont get this movie its ok though u got ur white baseball movies watch those

reply

HEY, i'm white and this is my 2nd favorite movie, don't go sterotyping white people cuz becuase some of they don't like it!!!

reply

I'm white, and I do consider myself a Filmophile....

But I actually enjoyed this movie, and was surprised from Keanu could act... but it's not meant to be a complex film by any means, and the "gaping holes" and whatever exist, but who the fawk cares.

The movie is simple story and entertaining.... it made me sad, happy, and want to have Diane Lane be my teacher.

reply

i can only guess that you have had very bad experience with movies. this was one of my favorite films. keanu is a great actor whose style is subtle, but powerful, who is just given a hard time by the critics and those who are terribly shallow. he is an excellent actor!! and the movie actually made me cry in appreciation. ok, maybe i'm pushing it, but still, it is a great movie, with a great cast, that no one really notices because it's not a very big film.
if you can sit through the whole movie without feeling anything similar to sadness when *SPOILER* the kid was shot and killed. or happiness when the team won. you'd better check in with a therapist, fast.

reply

I don't think this movie is as bad as people make it out to be, but Keanu Reeves is definitely NOT "the best actor on Earth". I don't mind him, but he's not the greatest.

I think the movie tried to show how his growing love for the team and the players helped him get over his gambling habit. He felt more direction with his life, and that probably helped with his problems.

As for the constant jittery arm movements, it's because his character is overemotional. Hell they even hint at during his $12 grand bet scene, when the old guy says "You are too emotional"...it's just his character.

reply

u can't say this is the worst movie ever made... unless u have no heart or soul... i've seen the movie before (when it 1st came out) and i just saw it again on tv tonight... even WITH the dubbed over audio in certain cases, the movie got me emotional after watching 15 minutes of it.. i understand that keanu isn't the greatest actor of all time, AND there is a bunch of kids in the movie too... but it's a good movie.. sure, if ur a cold hearted bastard u might not like this movie, but otherwise it's alright...

reply

I think people are over exagerating. This movie satisties me. Keanu Reeves is my favorite actor. His ability is okay with me, and I haven't seen a movie with him that had dissapointed me yet. He was excellent in the funeral scene. And I think that people are down playing the film because they either can't relate to it, or they don't get what's going on. I don't live in a neighborhood like those kids lived in. But I know how they feel, like when the one guy, (I think his name was Jamal) couldn't play because of his age. When he ran off, I just about knew how he felt. If you don't have any interest or any relation to this type of film, then don't review at all. Saves a lot of negativity.

reply

ya really, Heck i cryed at the end!!! i love this movie

Get this, a gambler coaches a black (inner-city/ghetto) baseball team and gains a connection to his players, after much difficulty! Hmmm, let's put Diane Lane and...hmmm...what's that *beep* actors name...yeah, Keanu Reeves! Horribly mis-cast.

I love when hollywood's big movies bomb.

EDIT: To the poster two below...

Because he's a slag off!
