Movie was cool and pretty good until

G-Baby was killed. That wasn't necessary. It did nothing for the film except make part of it suck.

It was sad, wasn't it? He was the smallest, coolest kid there.

I think it was important because it showed the reality of life in such a toxic environment.

Not only that, but when you realize that because of the pettiness of one coach that got Jamaal kicked off the team for being 2 weeks too old, he ended up getting into the gang that was involved in the shooting. Sure, following the rules is important, but the whole point of the baseball teams was to try and give the kids something to do after school, keep them away from the gang influence, maybe give them goals that don't involve gangs and hope that by doing so, maybe the kids won't turn to gangs. Instead of thinking about the greater good of letting Jamaal play, the other coach cared more about winning.

Now the coach was also petty about the pitcher listening to the music, for the same reason, but at least that decision didn't kick the kid off the team.

It's also completely unnecessary that it happens in real life. Slice of life for ya.
