What happened to Michael B Jordan (spoiler)

Am I right in thinking because he was the wrong age that, he became a gangster, that led to g baby's death...

A bit much ay, I can't remember if he was too old or too young... But there's always another league or team....

It's a little stereotypical that if he can't be into sports he'll become a gangbanger...

He was the tallest of the kids so he was too old to be on the team. I think they wanted to show what happens when kids get lost in the system. I agree it didn't really add much. The movie was clearly trying to make a statement on inner city kids. Its the wrong film to be doing it in.

Well you gotta think about it...baseball was his only outlet. He goes to school and then practices for the rest of the day. Without practice and games on Saturday he's lost without baseball distracting him.

In walks some punk thug who gets him into a little bit of thug business and it ultimately becomes a downward spiral. There's not much else for him to do and with the thought of gaining money, power, and respect (a thug's life motto) it wouldn't be too hard for him to stray....even if deep down he knows this isn't what he wants in his life.

There's always another league however when you live in a community with few resources the choices are not as fruitful. Also, little leagues have an age cap. Many people don't want to deal with older children so after little league they have no wear to go. Some children do not have the means to travel from theif neighborhood to another to play sports or any other activity. It may be due to a parent working or lack of involvement. So sometimes these kids do get caught up in street gangs. This movie was based on a true story.

Damnn i just watched this for the first time in a decade and didnt even register that was a young MBJ.

Also in response to your 7 year old post, kids can get fully lured into that life by like age 12 or 13. A lot of them will just go with it too, because of all the money that gets flashed by the dudes doing the recruiting. Or they'll feel like they need to do it for protection. The movie was blatant in the message it was going for, so maybe a little cliche, but cliches are deemed so because they're rooted in truth. I'm pretty sure this movie opened a lot of eyes of people who have never lived or even been to the ghetto...but it probably didn't do much good, because 99.99% of those people probably just shut them right back after an hour or so.
