Kinda Crude? (butt, diherea, smoking, gambling, etc.)

I watched this movie expecting a good kids movie, i still believe its a kid's movie, its just it was kinda unneccesary and crude for a Christmas kid's movie.

I know what you mean but I think the idea is trying to put an original twist on the traditional view of Father Christmas and to make him sound like a regular human being. I've watched this since I was a child and I don't think it really affects children. Most crude jokes go over their heads anyway.

I politely disagree. Its a family film. With all the terrible influences todays society brings upon children, i.e internet, violent computer games, increased crime on the news, hard hitting story lines on soap operas I think its little miss placed to find fault with such a lovely inocent cartoon.

reply

I agree. It came off more uncharming and valgur than the intended "human touch" or humourous touch.

I haven't read the book but did anyone find the film true to the book? (Did you get the same impression from the movie as you did from the book)?

reply

The film is actually a combination of two books, I read Father Christmas goes on Holiday (which, as you can imagine is the events from the first part of the film) and it was one of my favourites to read at Christmas time.

That part was very true to the book. The book version of Father Christmas was just as grumpy, but that was what made him endearing.

If I remember rightly, the last 4 panels were of him saying: "Stuck up here... on me own... in the cold... what a life!"

Maybe if you had read the books.. you would have realised... Father Christmas is a real person... burps ..farts and moans.. just like our dear children....

If you want to wrap your infants in cotton wool.... keep them indoors and away from such danger as a cartoon... :)

Atama hagetemo uwaki wa yamanu.!

lol You didn't get my point at all.

I read the book after I posted, and did not find Father Christmas in the book as vulgar at all. Just a real person like you said. But the guy in the movie was ugh...

I read the book when I was a young 'un and the cartoon is completely faithful. I love how it imbues Father Christmas all the foibles, frustration, ill humour, grumpiness etc that any hard working and dedicated civil servant is entitled to. In the end Father Christmas comes to all the nice girls and boys and that's what it's all about.

Great movie. Better than The Snowman, which is also fine, in my opinion.
