why was it dropped?

Anyone know why this show was so abruptly pulled off the air? As far as I can remember, they were about two or three episodes into series two(one of the developing storylines concerning paedophilia) and then, nothing, it was gone without any explanation. All very mysterious.....

I'm not sure if it was ever dropped because it had earlier won the BAFTA award. It was also on BBC2 where it had a decent size audience.

I have no idea why it was dropped and to be honest I don't care but I would like to be able to buy the series on DVD. Any ideas.

I heard that Greater Manchester Police pulled their support from the show since it showed them in a bad light. Without their technical assistance, making another series would have been tough. More crucially, without police support, the writers couldn't job-shadow officers or pick their brains for story lines.

With the show on hold, many of the cast drifted off to become regulars in other shows and the whole thing fizzled out.

However, two complete series WERE broadcast. The first series was released on VHS but not DVD.

The fact that the BBC have never released this show is criminal. At least they're finally releasing Bodies on DVD though...

Thats how I remember it. 2 full series. 8 episodes per series.
Then series 3 was supposed to be the same, instead only 2 episodes came out.
the explanation above makes sense. I can't believe it never was released on DVD. I thought it was spot on, showed police in a perfect light for me. (ie not a very good one) it was good viewing.

Cam Winstanley is right. Its not the lack of technical assistance that was the problem, it was more the lack of access to potential story lines.

A crying shame it was dropped and never released on DVD, this is the closest TV representation I've ever seen of the British police that I have had dealings with. Generally thick & lazy & bullies, it actually shows them in a good light compared with how they actually are !

reply

Oh what a suprise..... Police are thick... Not heard that for a while.... I suppose your different...

reply

I thought it shown them on quite a sympathetic light. It seemed to be a fair portrayal of the police and the people of the UK. It was a balanced look at the issues and problems faced.

Great drama too!
