Father v. Son Misconception

I have heard a few times now that Sly felt that Sage's short film "Vic" was mocking his career. Now is as good a time to set the record straight. It's a rather long story but the bottom line is that the movie was created from whole cloth when Sage came to me to write and produce a film for him based on an image he had in his mind's eye. I came up with the script based on said image and unwisely signed away the story rights to get the picture made. A mistake on my part but then again the name Stallone back in the day had me a bit starstruck. But, no harm, no foul. I begrudge no one as it was of my own doing.

Sage and I both were, and are, dear friends of Clu Gulager and it was always going to be a film made for, and with, him and his entire family. Any connection to Sly was never as much as a fleeting thought except that the young hotshot director in "Vic" is named Tony LaSalle, an anagram I came up with for Sly Stallone. If Sly feels that Sage was making a film that was in any way taking shots at his career trajectory he could not be more mistaken. Sage made a passionate statement about what inevitably could happen to anyone, but especially those who depend on others for validation.

Sage stood up for my screenplay and for that I always stand up for him and "Vic".

Could sage have not just told have his father that he is mistaken?

He did, but it wasn't enough to convince him otherwise. Remember that not so long ago, this man was the biggest star on the planet, and during the making of "Vic" he wasn't getting the offers he used to. It's easy to see why he thought this was about him.
