Ok i may be dumb but how did they get thier name and what does the "D" stand for. I have always wondered

I heard they got it from Marv Albert commentating on the New York Knicks defense, he said they had Tenacious Defense......Tenacious D, but I got that from wikipedia so it could be wrong

Actually they didn't have a name and they had a bunch of names that being one of them and that is how they got it but they had a concert (yes nameless) and the crowd voted there name in.

They also use the D chord a LOT in their songs..

Anyone who used to watch old Knicks basketball on NBC would immediately recognize "Tenacious D" as a Marv Albert-ism.

They've said in the past that it was because of Marv Albert.
