I guess he doesn't know or give credit to the functioning addicts out there, that do go to work faithfully, pay taxes,pay there bills, come home to their families, support their loved ones etc.

i'm not condoning in taking this shit, but he just showed one side. they aren't all these low-lives as people call them believe it or not. im sure they are no happier to say the least, but they are out there, and they do fine considering...

I don't believe this director ever implied what's depicted is the life of every drug user, or addict.

Your argument might better be with the book's author, Hubert Selby, Jr.

Hi Darren and glad to meet you!
I think this harrowing film was simply about one guys issues and how he screwed everything up ... His best buddy died, he was too wasted to look out for his own mon, his girlfrliend was sadly humiliated...
Drugs ARE BAD...no lie
