i dont mean to sound ignorant but what was the scene where he makes him strip about? i know it was intense but is it about power? sex? or both. what was the point in that scene, wat was it trying to accmomplish. man, they were both great in it huh? they should have both gotten Oscars for thier roles.
He has that raw, sexual force, that damned temptation. He knows the Abbey wanted Madeleine, he knows the powers of lust, and he knows how tightly the Abbey is constricted to the cloth.
He was being a righteous little tease, forcing the Abbey to at least acknowledge the bitter truth that he does, in fact, carry lust in his eyes, if not his heart. He isn't the infallible, celibate prude he likes to think he is, and de Sade exploited it.
Whatever it is, I can't stand watching that scene, the affect it has on me!
Well it was mostly about power-but if the Abbe had ripped off his cassock, thrown himself at de Sade and panted 'I want you to *beep* me as hard as you can and not stop until its over' I'm sure he wouldn't have objected.
Who could?
Those are my principals. If you don't like them I have others.~Groucho Marx
I thought it was because he had just had the sheets removed from the room because he was using them to write on, therefore any other material should be removed also, due to that same risk. That's how I saw it, anyway. (:
That scene was incredibly homoerotic. The Abbe may have started out in control of the situation, but the Marquis was so comfortable with his nudity and his sexuality that I think the Abbe had a reaction to de Sade that he didn't expect. I don't think Madeleine was the Abbe's only temptation. The look in his eyes as he tried to avoid looking at de Sade was tortured because he was confronting his own weaknesses.
I agree - de sade is totally seeing through the abbe's pent up frustrations with his actions and using them to his advantage... but I think that that scene has to be one of the raunchiest scenes in film history (omitting porn that is):P
you cant take your eyes off of either man..
HAWT
definitely not a film to to be watched with others in the room
That was damn hot! The Marquis de Sade is pretty thrilling! In the film, de Sade defys the vulnerability of being stripped of everything he owns (including his clohtes)and instead is a powerful force. It works very well (if you know what I mean)!
