Alan Rickman

This may sound a little strange, but did anyone else perceive a resemblance to Alan Rickman on Geoffrey Rush's part in this film - or is it just me? They ARE two of the coolest actors around IMHO.

This is a serious question. And I'd like to hear from anyone who does or doesn't think there is a resemblance.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie so maybe I need to see the DVD again (sigh :).

reply

No, but I think he could have done this role very well. He's MUCH more attractive than Rush. I love Rush's acting but he's not pretty.

Let me guess. Who do you love?

mmmmm ..... So it seems no one perceived a resemblance. I WILL have to check out the DVD again. As far as I'm concerned they're both running neck and neck.
And are absolutely scrumptious.
Thanks.

Scrumptious indeed!

But I have to admit, after watching Perfume: The Story of a Murderer the other day, featuring a bit of Rickman wig action...I did detect a slight resemblance there. Usually, and out of character; not so much.

And for those in doubt about Rush's appeal...how could one take a gander at this and still put him in the 'ugly' basket...

Right you are. It must be the wig. Beaut pix. Adore those long rangey legs. Love both the big smile and the sneaky smile. Just a cutie, he is.

I'll admit that Rush's talent is irrestible. But his looks just don't appeal to me. He's not ugly. Just not for me. I actually prefer ugly-handsome to pretty-handsome. Joaquin's face is more my type.

Nice! I like most of those pictures. (pics 4-10, 12-13, 14, 16)
I wonder does Geoffrey realise that he has a female fan base (which is growing) and we're drooling over this guy on the internet? I hope he does coz he's to die for!
I have NEVER felt this way about any actor/celebrity before. Oh well, a first for everything!

reply

I made the same mistake.
I watched this film quite a long time ago before I watched it again just now. And I managed to forget a lot about it.
But I was explaining this film to somone a couple of months ago and I told them that Alan Rickman was the main character.

I was dead confused when I watched it again tonight and realised it was actually Geoffrey Rush. I still don't really know how I could have made that mistake!

reply

Ohhh don't worry when I first saw Elizabeth I thought Wallsinham was Liam Nesson, but my mom told me it was Geoffrey Rush.

reply

Jane Menelaus, who plays Sade's wife in Quills is Rush's wife in real life. They have been married since 1988 and have two children.

reply

I absolutely did!

There were multiple moments during the film when I thought... ohh, what would it be like if Alan Rickman was in his place, the role would suit him as well as Rush... =) So you're not alone! =))

They are equally talented and charismatic, but I do have to admit I am more of a Rickman fan anyway.

I could TOTALLY see Alan Rickman playing this part!!!

I could see Alan Rickman as the Marquis but Geoffrey Rush did an excellent job. And it wasn't half bad to have the pleasure to see him naked. I own the DVD so it played often here when the kids are asleep. And yes, i've watched certain parts frame by frame.

I was not crazy about the movie Perfume but I can see what you mean. Plus Alan Rickman isn't afraid to show off his body either in films and theater.

They are both good looking and have great bodies!

Yes please, I'll take three of each wearing nothing but big red velvet bows around their .. waists .. and carrying palm fronds with which to treat me like a Goddess while I'm stuck on that next tropical desert island.

Hey, it's my fantasy - get your own!

Hehe, I adore both of them. They're both excellent actors and have each taken some fascinating and mildly surprising roles over the years. I always think I have a slight preference for one over the other and then I see something new and can't decide again. Mmmm, daydreamy happiness...

ooh rush actually reminded me of richard e grant here - this is high praise on all levels. he is AMAZING in this film. which is not, let us be frank, in itself amazing. but rush! o rush. rush rush.

Geoffrey Rush was just too perfect for this role and he's absolutely delicious. But I always wonder and wish Alan Rickman had done this role. I wish they could have filmed it twice with both of them. Because dear god in heaven Alan Rickman in heaven on earth, could you imagine hearing those passages read in his velvety voice?

Ah I love them both! I can't chose!

I certainly could!...but GR has a heavenly voice all of his own.

I agree wholeheartedly. Geoffrey Rush was more than perfect for this role and I love his raspy voice. I just think it would be interesting to see Alan Rickman do the role. However, I don't think he would be able to pull off the sprite-liness movement that GR has.

You could pick up Sweeney Todd and watch the scene where AR's Judge Turpin strokes those dirty books in front of Jamie Campbell Bower.

It's not exactly the same, but it's similar in nature.

I think they are both great actors and that Alan could have also pulled off this role.

Neither of them are my type looks wise but both have sexy voices I could listen to all day

I ADORE Alan Rickman and I too think that he could have done this role as fantastically as GR did. I also think Geoffrey could have done Alan's part in Robin Hood POT. The only difference might be, as someone pointed out earlier, that Geoffrey is a little bit more light feeted and moves seemingly dancer -like which fits this role in Quills so perfectly. I don't think Alan could have done that. Then again, I also feel that Rickman's way of talking would have even added to the erotic sensation of his stories, Geoffrey's voice is great but Alan Rickman's voice is....devine.

I wouldn't have made the connection, but for this film I could imagine Rickman as de Sade though I'm jolly glad it was Rush.
