What I wanna know: Why do you hate it?

For me, "Pluto Nash" was average, but leaning towards the good side as a comedy flick. In fact, it made me laugh on several occasions. Now I know it was a pointless, and for some irritating kind of film, but I want to know what people hate about this film in detail.

I just didn't find it funny...
You know, if it would've been an averagely produced film, it wouldn't have been THAT bad - but if you hear "Oh, it had a budget of 100 million $" - you also expect a good or at least an innovative film. But this din't have anything that made you say: "Wow, now that's cool. The big budget was really worth it." PLUS it wasn't funny - that's why everybody, or at least I, was so disappointed by it.

reply

Sounds about right. More than anything, I think people expect a certain quality with a budget that big, and a star like Eddie Murphy. I've seen hundreds of worse films, but none that fell so far short of their potential (what potential does a $600,000 film about an alien invasion have?).

Then again, I hated the film because:

a) Eddie Murphy (he isn't funny)
b) The film wasn't funny
c) The film wasn't entertaining
d) The characters were almost all annoying and unlikable.

I too would like to know that... I too found it hillarious from time to time.

Ok, it's not top notch, but it had some quite fun segments. 'Bruno' was one of them. I would like to think that this movie is intended for the somewhat younger audience, since it's somewhat light weight the way the humour goes.

I only say, STFU and watch the movie as it is, and for what it is.

You really wanna laugh!!? - Watch Shrek 1 and / or 2, or Four weddings and a funeral (In case the first choice dosen't set you off, and you humour have been shot to hell..)!

I'd like to give it atleast 6 out of 10.
Descent plot (Hardly originally, but fun, and not too often used (Except for the cloning- part that is), descent acting (Script- related, not the actors per say). In short, a descent movie!

Most folks don't know why they hate it -- but they know that they're supposed to hate it.

I really liked the movie, and thought it was severely underrated. But the anti-Pluto spin was so great, everyone's been brainwashed. It's uncool to like this film.

reply

I'm already "uncool" so I might as well like the movie.

It really wasn't that bad. Not the best, just ok. It's not the worst movie I have ever seen.

I think if you spent money to see this film in the theaters you would be sorely disappointed; and it's one of those films that "feels" bad and makes you uncomfortable watching it with someone else. Murphy looked uncomfortable in some scenes a few times.

Having said that, however, I really didn't think it was all that bad. I watched it on cable, and when it costs you nothing extra you can relax and just enjoy it like any of the other marginal flims we all watch. People love to bash stars when they get the chance - Murphy, Cruise, whoever. It wasn't that bad, and neither was Murphy.

reply

Pluto Nash is fine, it's harmless and fun entertainment with a likeable lead and some funny supporting characters. The bashing of it is mostly the result of sheep mentality.

why do people hate it?

well i mean like you im sure the movie made lots of people laugh....problem is most of us were laughing for all the wrong reasons.....

The other thing is that for the budget the movie is terrible.... and considering it was given around one hundred million to make and didnt even scrape by 5 million is pretty aggitating to most people.....it was way to much money for what little was done....you have college kids barely scraping by with not enough money to fill up thier car, trying like anything to find some way to pay back student loans, and here this movie pretty much just throws 95 million down the drain is pretty rough. I mean there was a reason so many people had to try to revise the script so much....there is a reason future movies written back when they thought we would have flying cars by 2000 SHOULD NOT BE MADE!

the fact that this movie had a budget of 100 million and was this bad for all that money, is why people shoudl hate it. Im still shocked the goverment hasnt looked into that as some sort of fraud, becouse it looks like 50 million of that money went to absolutely nothing....

reply

Why hate it? Too much set, too long, too flat, too much overpaid actors mugging through lame jokes.
I don't like this movie but it takes too much energy to bother hating it.

The Enemy is tempting you with Cola.

I dont always hate movies that have love as a major plot line throughout- e.g. in the 5th element it worked well.. but in this movie.. the love crap felt like a boring waste of film and mainly because of the lack of character development. I hardly knew the people I was watching, let alone cared if they ended up together. Very generic characters in this movie, except for Bruno. He rocked.

This movie was written in 1985. If it had been made back then maybe it would have been more successful. Or if it had been made in the 90's with Robert Rodriguez directing it on a much smaller budget.
