People just hate this cause it flopped

i understand people not liking this movie that much but its not as bad as people make it out to be to me people just hate some of Eddies Movies like this and I Spy because they flopped

reply

no...its cause that film was utter *beep*
and i spy wasnt to bad, i think the reason that so many dont like it is cause it lacks alot of things which great films have eg a good story, characters, acting etc.

reply

Listen im not sayin that this movie was the greatest thing every but it wasnt as bad as people on this board make it out to be

reply

Yeah its not that bad, I thought it was quite good. People should try watching it for a second time. It gets better the more you watch it!!!

reply

The critics and the public hated this movie when it was originally released, and is still hated today. Critics didn't hate the movie after it flopped.
It flopped because it was bad.

reply

Wait...your argument is that people don't like it, because it flopped? Excuse me for saying so, but isn't that a ridiculous lapse of logic? Usually movies flop (as in "don't make money") BECAUSE people don't like them (as in "won't pay to see them"), not the other way around. There are a million movies that have "flopped" yet are critically acclaimed or have gathered huge cult followings since their DVD release. I'm still waiting for the "I Heart Pluto Nash" fan clubs to pop up. In other words, you're putting the horse before the cart, saying that because it flopped, people disliked it, when in fact because people disliked it, it flopped.

I'm not saying people aren't giving Eddie Murphy a fair shake anymore based on one or two bad movies he's made, I do believe that there's been a prejudicial build-up against him and anything he releases, as if everyone's preparing for the worst saying "Oh God I just hope he doesn't screw up as much this time" before giving it a chance. That would have been a credible argument.

reply

i understand your point in that this movie will prob not get a following but my point is not wen its in theaters, i mean when people see and they hear it flopped that they automattically not give the movie a chance or just say they dont like it. For example I know some people who saw the Replacements and loved it but then when they were talking about it and heard it flopped they said it was horrible thats the kind of thing i mean is people just hate it cause it flopped

reply

Well, movies can also flop because the companies predict it will be a flop and publicize it as little as I can. Also, big-budget movies just around the same thing can just trounce movies like this. Now, I don't remember what movies came out the same time as Pluto Nash, or if WB pushed the film a lot, but I do know that Eddie did nothing to promote its release whatsoever.

True, the film is not very good. But I do enjoy it and own it on DVD (actually, it was the only DVD that I bought AGAIN after it was stolen when our house was robbed. Nifty, huh?)

reply

I agree that people hate it because they knew it flopped. And when people watch it with that in mind they don't give it a fair crack.

I know this because I used to work in a cinema and saw lots of films before reviews came out. I often enjoyed them more than I would have had I read any reviews. The amount of people that used to come up to me and say "Oh that films *beep* when asked how they knew they said that they had "heard it".
I watched Battlefield Earth and Jingle All the Way before the critics got to them and enjoyed them (not LOVED) but now I feel shame admitting that.

I like Pluto Nash. It's funnier than Harold And Kumar which I thought was going to be brilliant (after reading the reviews I might add)

reply

Jingle All the Way is amazing. It's good BECAUSE it's bad!

reply

what i cant believe is that they paid eddie murphy 20,000,000 to star in this movie, do you think it even made that much?????? i doubt it

reply

It only made alittle above 4,600,000 and alittle above 2,400,000 overseas so the real amount lost was 113 million dollars adding production cost and marketing. But still even though this was the biggest flop ever and not the greatest movie. people dont give it the chance because they here its the biggest flop

reply

i agree most people probably dont give it a chance..but i did and it was terrible...not funny at all..i like eddie murphy but mannnn that movie was awful

reply

You'll find that this movie flopped BECAUSE they hated it. Not the other way 'round.

Not enough people saw it in the cinema for it to have flopped because of word-of-mouth - unless maybe people were put off by the trailer.

It probably flopped because of negative reviews, bad pre-publicity and/or the studio deciding not to promote it.

This was a big-budget movie from a major studio. Normally, even if a movie is dire, a major studio can rake in a lot more than $4 million on the first weekend of release, before word-of-mouth has time to kick in. Probably, the studio gave it minimal promotion and withdrew it early from circulation, having decided that it could not compete with that year's blockbusters.

It's made $24 million on DVD, which is pretty decent. If people hated it as much as you say, it would flop on DVD as well.

reply

it didn't flop because people hated it(how could they no one went to see it) but because the critics said it was a cr*p film ..if it had been given a fair and unbiased review by them it would have at least made some of its money back but most of the reviewers had their own personal agendas against Eddie and the budget(which was huge)also i think a lot of them just didn't get what the film was trying to do ...

movie was terrible. I own almost all the Rosario and Eddie movies except this one. It just stinks

reply

http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0402399/ is an infinitely worse Pocahontas than Avatar. Avatar is just Pocahontas in blue. Not original, but also not nightmare-inducing.

It was ok, expected more from a Eddie Murphy film, had its flaws but I think people like to give this one a flogging because of its poor box office and because its Eddie Murphy.

Its that man again!!

reply

I like it. It's a great movie that I really enjoy every now and then.
