Yes there are 21 episodes.

Actually there are 23 stories but the first two have not been made.

reply

Hey,

Do you mean "TinTin au Congo" (TinTin in the Congo) and "TinTin in the land of the Soviets"?

I was aware that there were only 21 episodes made for Television which is what the 75th anniversary box set has.
A shame they cant be seen in French with English subs but oh well.
I really enjoyed those stories as a kid, big TinTin fan. I also have the English books of "The Secret of the Unicorn" and "Red Sea Sharks" I think.

reply

there are total of 23, but only 21 are on the dvd.
tintin in congo and tintin in soviet are not on the dvd.
i just got the box set.

i bought the vol 1-10 collections (blue and red box) and rec'd them today. vol 1 starts off on 'voyage to the moon.' is that right? it doesnt seem right because they start the first episode w/o introducing any of the characters. did the story start off this way or are the episodes not in order? anyone know?

reply

strange

i own the dutch version

the 1st episode should be 'tin tin in america' (dunno the exact englisch tittle)

reply

Do they have those shocking feature length films like Tintin and the Lake of Sharks?

don't you think that its a massive coincidence that there are 21 Tintin and 21 James Bond???

Well yes but Tintin is very much a similar character to James Bond except that he's a journalist not a secret agent, he's small and weak (in body not in character), he's completely asexual and he has no gadgets at all (except Snowy I suppose).

Otherwise though.........

I'm sure he does in the Wild West one? Or would it be unacceptable for a childrens character to kill someone? (in which case he won't have done)

Does Tintin actually get paid though? I mean he says hes a journalist but he doesnt seem to have a steady job so where does he get all the money for travelling around the world? (i may be demonstrating my lack of Tintin knowledge but im not aware of it ever being explained)

You just don't get this sort of attention to detail in comics today.

Everythings too comerical which is exactly what Herge wasn't.

The episodes of the TV series were not produced in chronological order, and the DVD probably uses the production order rather than Hergé's original order, which should be as follows:

Tintin in America
The Cigars of the Pharoh (Parts 1 & 2)
The Blue Lotus (Parts 1 & 2)
The Broken Ear (Parts 1 & 2)
The Black Island (Parts 1 & 2)
King Ottokar's Sceptre (Parts 1 & 2)
The Crab with the Golden Claws(Parts 1 & 2)
The Shooting Star
The Secret of the Unicorn (Parts 1 & 2)
Red Rackam's Treasure
The Seven Crystal Balls (Parts 1 & 2)
Prisoners of the Sun (Parts 1 & 2)
Land of Black Gold (Parts 1 & 2)
Destination Moon (Parts 1 & 2)
Explorers on the Moon (Parts 1 & 2)
The Calculus Affair (Parts 1 & 2)
The Red Sea Sharks (Parts 1 & 2)
Tintin in Tibet (Parts 1 & 2)
The Castafiore Emerald (Parts 1 & 2)
Flight 714 (Parts 1 & 2)
Tintin and the Picaros (Parts 1 & 2)

This order will make much more sense in terms of introducing the characters!

reply

There are 22 episodes, 21 of which have been made in this series.

Tintin in the Land of Soviets has NEVER been considered part of the normal collection. I've read these comic books dozen of times, and the back cover always had the pictures of the covers of each album, from Tintin au Congo to Tintin et les Picaros.

There's also "Tintin et l'Alph-Art", an incomplete album.

reply

There are actually 39 episodes, all the stories are shown in two parts apart from Tintin in America, The Shooting Star and Red Rackham's Treasure (18 x 2 + 3 x 1 = 39).

I'm aware of 21 books, several of which are grouped because they are not stand-alone stories, but have sequels.

I don't believe Haddock had a mansion at all until after find the treasure.

I have seen a book, possibly called the Blue Orange, which was done with live action photos rather than the animalted comics. I don't know how that fits in or if it was based on a movie.

Stories not Adapted to the seriesFour stories were not adapted to the animated series. These were:

1.Tintin in the Land of the Soviets - because it was in an original black and white state but mostly because it was offensive for Russia

2.Tintin in the Congo - due to its unavailability in English at the time and mostly due to questionable (Colonialism and racism) content

3.Tintin and Alph-Art - because it is unfinished

4.Tintin and the Lake of Sharks - Because it's not written by Hergé and it was originally a movie that was latter adapted to comics using still images.
