How did Hanna (By the way, the name was spelled was spelled Hannah in the book, and when she time-travels she becomes Chaya) time-travel? When I read the book I thought Aunt Eva/ Rivka had done something, but in the movie it was obvious she was shocked by what Hanna knew about her.

It is a fantasy. Hannah just opened the door into the past where she lived the life of a girl named Chaya of that time. Nothing sinister, nothing delibrate, just that Hannah had to live in the past in order for her aunt to live in the future.
