...where he splashes coffee into the postbox? i dont get it :S

The splashing was accidental, don't you think - he was just checking the pick-up times in the hopes of meeting Bertie (hence the second cup of coffee). That's what I reckon, anyway.

Maybe it was accidental, but I always thought it was as if he was trying to put "his mark" on the mail knowing that it would make it's way to her in the post office.
