I believe it sounds like Tumbledown, a movie with Jason Sudiekis and Rebecca Hall. Hall is a widow who is stuck in her grief after the sudden death of her husband who is a singer/songwriter with one album of eleven songs to his credit. He has developed a bit of a "cult" following, with random visitors to his grave who leave a variety of trinkets as signs of their devotion.
Sudiekis is a music professor at Hofstra University who has also become enchanted by the music of of this seemingly obscure songwriter. He has even managed to secure an advance to write a book about his life. If only He could get the widow to stop grieving his death long enough to share his life...
The professor does visit at the cabin of the widow in the snowy town where one has to "earn your seasons". The more the story unfolds, the more is learned of the deepest secrets of the songwriter. But, more than that, the widow and professor learn much more about life, love and the most important lesson of all...saying hello to new possibilities begins with saying goodbye.
I hope this is the movie. You can see more about it in the IDMB. God bless. This is a great movie, even if it is not the one you were thinking of.
