Flip and the gang are supposed to live in Maquoketa, Iowa. That's where some parts were filmed. I grew up in Andrew, 5 minutes away from Maquoketa.
The store scene was shot at the local "Jack and Jill," a grocery store that actually just closed down.
I guess this small hick-ass part of Iowa is good for filming. "Field of Dreams" was shot in Dyersville, 25 minutes away.
And yes, lots of kids in Maquoketa do act this way. It's really sad.

I went to school in Maquoketa at the time this movie was made. They shot some scenes at the highschool I went to. Man this movie sucks, the only reason I watched it was to see my home town in movie format.

i havent seen the movie but i was about nine years old when they were filming this movie just down the street from where i live in bettendorf, iowa (about 45 minutes away from maquoketa)...i know they used a house down the street for some inside shots but i'm not sure how much they actually shot in bettendorf though
