Either way we are dealing with a derogatory/inflammatory word. If a series of racial stereotypes begin to fill your mind at this point, than you have proved that you have been sufficiently indoctrinated by the systemic racism that pervades American culture, esp. the film medium. Thanks to a long blackface/minstrel tradition, Hollywood/mainstream media has successfully perpetuated negative representations of black culture to the effect of dominating the collective psyche to such a degree that a blog as ignorant as this one even exists.

Op, I grew up in a neighborhood primarily dominated by minorities. I listen to heavy metal, and grunge. I have never liked rap at all. My middle school was 85% black yet noone has ever called me a wigger. I was the only white kid on my football and basketball team.

It's a bullsh!t word made up by people who don't understand that it's just kids being kids. Hippies did it back n the 60's, grunge folks did it in the early 90's and emo/goth kids are doing it now. It's just a way to define yourself when you really don't know who you are.
