How Many Time Can You Copy a Videotap . . .

Never had a VHS be impossible to watch because it was copied too many times, but I'm sure it's possible. The tape being copied can degrade after too many, but the taped being copied from shouldn't be affected because it is just playing while the other is formatting.

The curse remains no matter what format it is viewed in. Making copies doesn't save people from the curse like they
erroneously thought in Ring. Even reading a description of the video infects people.

According to the wiki Sadako "made the tape" psionically. . . so I guess the copy can be hardy to degradation from a convenient plot point.

Generation loss on a VHS tape renders the fourth copy unwatchable. But each time the copy has to be made from the previous copy.

So, original --> copy 1 (from original) --> copy 2 (from copy 1) --> copy 3 (from copy 2) --> copy 4 (from copy 3 and then image completely degraded).

But if all copies continue being made from the original then there's only one generation loss and a slight loss of video quality.
