where the shooting takes place has the girl in the yellow dress as the cashier but the final scene(which is supposed to be the exact same incident? has her friend(the sarah polley character)as the cashier.
does anyone know why this is?
The entire film is about the choices we make and how the smallest thing can change everything. The first scenario is one conclusion while the second is another. The girl in the yellow dress chose differently this time, likely when she spoke to the guy at the restaurant which got her drunk which meant she couldn't work and had to get sarah polley to. The woman who was going on the blind date, maybe this time she stalled longer and that's why she saw the exterminator truck and they didn't eat there. The exterminator chose to do something this time, which saved the life of the little girl. This is why throughout the film people keep mention what could ahve happened. The outcomes that never were.
