Those of you who have read the book...

...would you recommend the book over the film?

reply

Yes, yes, yes a thousand times over

Have you seen really tall flowers that talk?

In a word: Yes! I was quite disappointed in the film adaptation. I read the book upon its initial publication back in 1995 and liked it very much. I personally found that the film fell far short of truly capturing the essence of this profoundly sad yet compelling story. Jordana Brewster was well cast in the role of Phoebe, but I didn't care for the casting choice of Cameron Diaz (as Faith) and Christopher Eccleston (as Wolf). Both are fine actors but Faith and Wolf were described entirely differently in the novel. For example, Wolf was not British - he was Faith's boyfriend from San Francisco. I always find it difficult to reconcile unnecessary changes in book-to-film adaptations...but maybe that's just my own peeve! ;)

If you haven't already read the book, do so. It's a good read that you will remember.
