Best Sci-fi series ever

It's creativity and humour can't be touched.

Man I miss this show, time to rewatch all the seasons again.

Even named new kitten after the show!

Definitely one of e best, odd, off-beat, not to serious, dark humor and some Sci Fi tossed in!

Seriously, I just found out about this show a couple months ago. Ordered the complete series on DVD and I'm obsessed. How the *beep* isn't this more famous?

It's ten times more entertaining, creative and imaginative than every other sci-fi series out there, except maybe for Farscape which I also bought the complete series and will begin watching when I'm done with Lexx.

Really though, I know some effects aren't good but if you can get past that then this is by far the best sci-fi series you'll get. With every new episode they dare to go even further instead of spending 99% of the episode inside the ship like all sci-fi series do and it's just so original you can't help but be enthralled by it.

Farscape is great, more conventional and more of a buddy type scifi/ fugitives show...

Lexx is not at all conventional, but at is part of the charm.

If you love Lexx and Farscape you will definitely love Babylon 5, Andromeda, Space Rangers, Firefly, Starhunter, Earth: Final Conflict

reply

I'll give all of those a try once I'm done with Farscape! I still haven't finished Lexx S3 and S4 'cause I'm kind of saving it since I love it so much and I don't want it to be over just yet.
However with Farscape I've been binge watching and now I'm mid-way through S2 and it just got awesome. Between Babylon 5 and Andromeda which would you say is the most creative? 'Cause that's the one I'll go for for sure! :)

Hey don't you see some similarities between Lexx and Farscape? I adore both shows but I think Lexx inspired Farscape in some moments. Just my own observations.

Well, Andromeda received mixed reviews from critics but I don't care. The show was cool.

Babylon 5 is probably one of the greatest Sci-Fi series I've seen but you must know one thing - Babylon 5's Season 1 is by far the worst. So don't judge it fast. The series keeps getting better with every new season.

Between B5 and Andromeda, I'd choose B5. If Lexx inspired Farscape then Babylon 5 inspired both Lexx & Farscape. All 3 shows are amazing though

reply

Cool! I'll get both then.

I see many similarities between Farscape and Lexx. I think it's also because of their shared details why they succeed where other sci-fi shows didn't IMO. I tried and tried but could never get into Star Trek, for instance, seeing as it seemed to me they just spent every episode inside the ship and nothing really gripping happened.

With box Lexx and Farscape that issue is put to rest from the get-go - I can't name how many times I've put on a Lexx or a Farscape episode thinking it would be a dud and just a few minutes later you're hooked - that's because both are very innovative, original and creative, which is honestly what you want with these shows.

I'm fascinated by sci-fi because of the thought of discovering new, alien worlds, knowing more about life and our place in the universe, those phylosophical questions everyone asks but no one has the answers to. The thing is, as a sci-fi show to me all you need to do is create those answers. Doesn't matter if it's probable or weird, because it's alien - we'll just never know how much veracity there really was behind each concept. But since all we can do is speculate, these shows excel by speculating! They don't care if it's weird, if it's dark, if it's *beep* up, because, really, why should they?

Products like these could only come from outside the US, so that might have to do with why both shows are so original.

My thoughts exactly! I tried to watch Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate - not bad but farrrrr not as intriguing as Lexx, Farscape, Babylon 5, Firefly etc. I adore Sci-Fi as well. It's my fav genre but I prefer sci-fi films/tv shows from the 70's/80s/90s/00s mostly. Our modern sci-fi - cheap rip offs, remakes or sequels.

By the way, I'm a bit weird. I believe that aliens exist somewhere outside out Solar System but I'm a very religious girl and I believe in God at the same time. LOL

IrinaOma, why would God create His entire universe just for the benefit of this tiny blue planet? It's the height of arrogance to believe that He only made us. Why would He do that? We're not so important that He would focus all of His attention on us only. Who told you that? The same people that tell you to ignore His laws of science and physics?

God made the universe. Why wouldn't He have made other worlds with lives and people, too? He surely knows that we're about to kill ourselves off. We haven't been good stewards of this beautiful world, have we? We're killing off species in overwhelming numbers. I pray He made other worlds. This one is dying fast.

Bored now.

Babylon 5 keeps it's focus on the long arcs the whole 5 year run. It could use some updated CGI now but it is the best epic sci-fi series out there.

Andromeda had a great first season and declined from there on. It turned into Hercules:The Legendary Journeys in space. Kevin Sorbo should never had been cast as the lead. They gave him too much influence on the series.

Maybe, I don't know. Sci-Fi is my favorite genre so I love many Sci-Fi shows. Lexx is one of my most favorite ones (next to The X Files, Babylon 5, Farscape, RoboCop:The Series, Earth: Final Conflict, Firefly, The 4400, Torchwood etc)

It's not really sci-fi, but more fantasy.

I couldn't get into the series because I hated Stanley Tweedle and all of the 'heros' seemed more like villains to me.

Just was reminded of this show doing a Farscape rewatch, reviewed the Wikipedia entry on it and briefly toyed with the idea of watching it if I could find the time. Brian Downey's voice gets on my nerves and he's so damned ugly; I don't know if I'll be able to get through it.

I've been spreading this *beep* around like crazy ever since I found out about it, 6 months ago. Seriously, I'll post about it everytime it comes up on a board, twitter, etc. I just want to get the word out there. It's insane to me how this isn't huge. lol

I love this show. It's weird in such a good way! And anything that has the Mayor from Spin City running around in a mini-skirt and make-up, PLUS Rutger Hauer in lipstick stuttering about "P-p-pattern" Is good in my book! :P

I love Lexx but the only issue is it is such a hard show to recommend as it is at times higher concept, breaks the mould of traditional scifi and quite frankly delightfully twisted and strange.

The dated effects don't help the show for newcomers either (me I don't care about that stuff)

I am due for another rewatch, sadly the wife gets too confused by it :( and I still have to use my dvd disks as it isn't on Australian Netflix either
