Was there supposed to be a fifth season?

Does anyone know if there was a fifth season planned or did they definitely know the story would end well before season four finished? Or were they cancelled after the fourth?

reply

I don't think so. But I would have really liked to have seen it continue at least for one more series. Just to see what became of Stan and Xev and Prince, Bunny, Priest & co.. Would have been different without 790 and Kai, but I'm sure they could have worked around it.

Also, I wish they'd been able to get Eva Habermann to play an Earthling in Series 4. Would have been neat to see them meet. We saw a Stan and Kai doppelganger after all.

On DVD extras they say that they knew exactly how it was going to end when they started the show, and what they said is how it ended. So no, no season five was intended.

Yeah, it was all Paul Donovan's call and he never wanted to do a Season 5. Why, I don't know. I want to track him down and scream WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY did you deny us a Season 5 when it could've been done.

There's a bunch of interviews which they really point out they were NOT cancelled, it was really their choice.

Season 4 is HUGE, so I can see why they wanted to stop after...but not FOREVER! A Season 5 that started in 2004 would've been sublime :(

a series without kai?
not really a proper lexx.

They were forced to have new writers on season 4 and I guess everybody felt that they were running out of steam. I am glad they stopped after season 4, because I don't want to see a season worse than that ;)

I can live with season 4 as the final one though. If I remember correctly there were talks about a spin off.

After season 4 Xenia Seeberg (Xev) said on German Television that they were working on a final Lexx movie so I guess there were some vague plans to do that. But as we all know it never happened.

They were tired and out of ideas. They went to Hollywood looking for funding and didn't get it so it was over. Michael McManus was exhausted and he didn't want to be Kai any longer. He felt that Kai should be dead and he got what he wanted in the finale.

Without money it was over. We fans offered what money we had but it was before crowd funding, Dammit.

Lexx ended.

Bored now.

Sorry I'm 6 years late to the party. I think Michael would have done it if he was offered enough money so that's a win, why not who wouldn't continue with more money? I would have loved both Xenia and Eva to come back and have 2 zevs somehow with Kai and Stahn as well as robot head, a 5 team misfits with baby lexx for another 4 seasons at least would have been more than perfect.

To the idiots in hollywood who couldn't fund Lexx season 5+ you fools this was the best sci fi show ever made and to this date none can stand against it even the hype of star treks and caprica, nothing is as good and down to Earth as Lexx was. RIP Lexx best sci fi show of all time, nothing can be better ever in all the 2 universes lol.

Sorry I am 11 years late for this. I'm thinking it was funding from the research I've done, it was all about the money, Some idiots in hollywood didn't fund the show and so they ended it on 4. What a foolish mistake this is the best sci fi of all time and even now 2023 nothing can and has beat it ever. I've seen them all, I am an artist and Lexx captures the soul and nostalgia and has the best storyline ever. They also got the best characters to play the roles, this is the key ingredient to making the best tv shows of all time.

Let it be known I'm in my 40's now but Lexx will always be the best even in 2000 years time if this Earth is still around Lexx will always be the best. Shame on Hollywood for not funding a season 5
