Best Bits???

I haven't seen this series since it was on TV at midnight on BBC2 about 6 years ago. I heard it was out on DVD and I was over-the-moon, but I've forgotten most of the sketches.
I NEED REMINDING!!!

Thank you!

Yeah i hadn't seen this since it was on aussie telly from about 4 years ago i suppose. And went crazy when it came out on dvd. Its *beep* classic i had never seen series 2, but i had seen most of season 1. But i can't find the skit where Simon Pegg (Shaun of the dead) they are in a meeting or something and he keeps saying "Oh no not him, that man is a Wanker" *beep* halirious! But my favourite sketches are mainly in the 2nd season. The Tin Man sketch, The sketch where simon pegg has crossed eyes haha omg that is halirious. The missing thumb hahahaha aka Apocalypse Now. *beep* i could go on forever...

Hee hee, memories.
I vaguely remember the guy who plays Tim in ''The Office'' being on a work site on their lunch break, and he keeps going on about how this one guy is ''soooo touchy!'' and this guy keeps saying that he's not until he looses it! Ha ha ha!!

...........or am I thinking of something else?

''You are soooooo touchy, mate!''

reply

The thing with Tim from the Office and "Touchy" was on the sketch show "Bruiser" which also starred Mitchell and Webb - the guys from Peepshow on Channel 4 (Webb is also now in The Smoking Room)

It was a very good sketch show, praying for a DVD release

That Simon Pegg's "Wanker" -skit was on the last (6th) episode on the first season, but I'm sure you found it already. I also love that last skit, where Mao sings "Virginia Plain". Just great!

Second season, I think, wasn't as good as the first season but there's also some unbelievably funny skits, such as the "Man with big hands"-skit. "You fat-handed twat!"

reply

YES!!! I remember that! He's walking down the street with everyone laughing and pointing, and then a woman drops her baby out of a window and he catches it in slo-mo, and even the mother makes fun of him afterward!!

HA HA HA!!!!

''touchy!''

I just finished watching both series on DVD, and I honestly can't remember it being THAT good when it was on. It was painfully funny, and definitely deserves the title of best British sketch show of late.

Sooo many brilliants sketches;
Kevin Eldon as the scientist/fireman who's skeleton freaked him out
Chairman Mao and his band
Emperor Ming doing housework (then a lovely appearance by Julia Deacon in hospital)
The first skit after the title credits on episode one of series two - Heap meeting his real mother. Genius. although the tongue thing spoilt it for me
Mark Heap as Colin the Tinman
Simon saying 'Tiny pony' repeatedly in a Scottish accent
''Tim Henderson'' ''Oh no, not him, he's a wanker''
Mark Heap's fantastic gymnastics
Them getting the most out of their Nazi costumes (how many skits?!)

Anything at all made me cry with laughter, particularly little things.

Describing it will never do it justice.

Oh goodness, there were so many great sketches........ my favourite ( but not necessarily the funniest) was one in the 1st episode of the 1st series (i think) where this fluffy pink and yellow puppet was wondering around the streets to this funky Latin-style music and all the men were gawping at it/her..... for some reason I just found it hilarious..... Ming the Merciless was classic too....

"My Hovercraft is full of eels..."

reply

i'm in the same boat with that fluffy yellow puppet sketch. I become hysterical whenever I watch it - it's so unbeliavably stupid and that puppet is SO funny looking. The jazz soundtrack to the sketch added A LOT to it as well.

Some other amazing sketches which haven't been mentioned yet are the one where Kevin Eldon's character tries to pass of an opinion as his how and the unforgettable Portaccio sketch - 'he REALLY, REALLY looked like shakespeare'

this show is pure genius. It was so underappreciated. Series 2 was disappointing though - but it was never going to be nearly as good without Graham Linehan

i recetnly watched the first series for the first time in ages, forgot how funny it was. the opening skit, where the 2 blokes tell the lady that they don't speak english, despite speaking perfect english, and then her goin on to ask if they speak german and them speaking perfect german but saying they dont - brilliant.
and the office folk who get upset cuz they can't wank in the office anymore.

I love love love the spoof of The Birds. "Don't give them anything!"

and the skit with Simon as the executive that can't open doors (or can't make a cool exit, either way it's hilarious)

reply

The sketch where Simon Pegg was a teacher and suddenly he was shot by his pupils, I thought was really hilarious.
