Help! What's Going On in This Sketch?

Can anyone explain the sketch from series 2, episode 1 where Simon Pegg plays a film producer who can't open doors. I'm sure it's just me, but I don't get the joke in that one. Thanks!

That pretty much is the joke...he can't seem to figure out how to open these doors. It's just supposed to be goofy humor.

I thought there might be more to it than that. The best theory I came up with was that it was some sort of comment on producers thinking they're gods, but not being able to act their way out of a room. I guess I'm overthinking it a bit. Thanks!

Was you overthinking it funny in any way? If so then you got the gag.

I think the point is that the producer keeps coming out with all these "hysterical" quips and comes across as a king amongst men, but he fails at a simple task of opening a door. Its just making a joke about a man so confident in his own abilities, being caught out by such a rudimentary thing.

That's right. It shows him as increasingly capable and cocky. Everyone falls all over his humor (which gets a tad cheesier, it seems, with each line) and he is having affairs with the other men's wives. When the one husband comes home, he even seems impressed to find him. But opening a door is confusing to him. Just an odd little surreal slice that I laughed way too hard at.

Si Vales, Valeo.

You're not supposed to get it. It's surreal comedy for Heaven's sake

is it not just supposed to be that he is a real smooth talker and this illusion of a cool person is destroyed when he is so goofy as to not being able to open a door
