Actually the Flemish Cap is well known throughout the world as excellent fishing grounds, not just for swordfish, but also for cod, hallibut, and shrimp. Since it lies outside the Canadian Exclusive Economic Zone, and is therefore considered International fishing waters, the area is extremely overfished.
