Anyone care to shed any light on the built up animosity between these two?

It's one of the highlights of the movie tbh.

Who wants to see a party of fishermen, getting on like a house on fire.

My guess is they've been out on fishing trips together before and didn't get along then either... Sully actually asks billy "Did Murph Keep his site?"

What we can gather from this is Sully simply doesn't want to have to work with him, which can only mean one thing... They've come to blows in the past.

From what I get from the movie, they were probably friends at one point and Murph's wife slept with Sully. She probably wasn't getting the attention she needed from Murphy so Sully was happy to give it to her. I believe that's why they divorced and that's why the 2 hate each other.
