So how long do you think Wahlberg's character survived?

When Wahlberg's character swam out of the sinking boat, he would have been exhausted from a severe lack of sleep and constant physical activity, not to mention his clothes were saturated with water which would make swimming difficult at best. So how long do you think he was able to tread water in the middle of a hurricane?

A few minutes.

Enough to make that speech.

Unfortunately he died along with the crew. It does make for a rather romantic ending though doesn't it? I love his letter. It puts tears in my eyes.

I love the book upon which the movie is based. The power of water is finely explained.

Yeah, the book is great. And the movie I think is a surprisingly good adaptation.

Working in the movie business since -92

How would anyone know? The crew all died, no one knows what happened. Whose to say he even made it out? Whose to say they all didn't make it out? No one knows what happened.

This movie was based upon a book of the same name.

No one survived the sinking of the ship. They were on the ocean and the boat went down. The movie's end was only an imagining of the Bobby's thoughts towards his sweetheart. She dreamt that he talked to her in her dreams. Its beautiful.

Kay: Senators and presidents don't have men killed.
Michael: Oh, who's being naive, Kay?
