Movie!

hey i heard grim fandango: the movie is on tim burton's list of future projects, but it's gonna be at least another year until we get further news.

Are you serious? Where did you read that? Having Tim Burton making a Grim Fandango film would be awesome!

reply

Oh no... I love Tim Burton but no-one can make a movie version of Grim Fandango that will make the game justice.

People who think that nobody could do Grim Fandango justice is holding it in too high esteem. Sure it's a cool adventure game but the 3d controls were a pain and it had no replayability (like most adventure games). It was the story that made it great. As long as Burton follows the art style, mood, and story of Grim Fandango I think it will be incredible. But I think that the quality of the movie hinges on the script in this case.

reply

In a recent interview, he just said that he read the script and liked it, but since he's currently working on another movie, there is no telling when he's gonna start working on this one, we might have to wait a year or two

reply

Wow, thats awesome.
I watched Tim Burton's Corpse Bride' the other day and some scenes in that, of skeletons and the land of the dead etc, really reminded me of Grim Fandango. So I really think it could work =) Well, I would hope so ^^

This news actually made me cry (just a bit) when I heard.

This is going to rule.

I know these things.

It was on Gamespot's rumour section.

As much as this could kick ass, I'll wait until more solid evidence before getting my hopes up.

Tim Burton even says so:

Read the last paragraph.

On G4 today on a gspot break "the feed" include a segment stating that burton would use his creative mind and turn fandango into a movie...its going to great....now if only somebody would try to work out a monkey island movie...........

It seems like pretty much just this one guy has been spreading the rumor and it's gotten out of hand. So really don't get your hopes up on this one, I wish it was true too.

Any fanboy full of wishes can create a wikipedia article, so that doesn't have too much credibility regarding the information being true or false. But anyway, I don't think this rumour just "popped" based on this article.

I think it would be awesome if Burton made a PG-13 stop motion film, and I think that "Grim Fandango" has the perfect world, characters, and story to help him pull it off. I'm psyched.

reply

wouldn't that be hilarious if it was live action? that would be the worst movie ever though.

reply

Does anyone know if Tim Schafer wrote the script? If not, then the movie is going to suck, hands down.

Even though Burton is a great director, if Schafer isn't on the writing staff, thin there isn't going to be much hope. He IS the one that wrote the game's script.

reply

I don't think so, since Schafer no longer works at LucasArts

reply

Is Burton really the right one to direct this movie?

reply

If not Tim Burton, then I hope John Carpenter can try directing, with Kurt Russell as Glottis.

I heard that Tim Burton was interested in the film of this years ago... so I don't know if it will ever be happening. It would be really good though. I think that it would have to be done as CGI or at least motion capture. It would be so hard to make it live action... the make-up would be impossible.
All we need now is a Monkey Island film... come on LucasArts, you owe it to us!

A Monkey Island film was in pre-production and then cancelled.
