More interested in a remake.

Of course there's little enthusiasm in respects to a sequel and I can see where everyone is coming from. But to see the game remade would be a dream come true. The art direction of this game makes it so timeless and makes the 'poly-count' of the game irrellevant but I think that a graphical upgrade couldn't hurt the game at all.

Creating the game in full real-time 3-D would just be amazing.

Agreed! It's perfect as it is but a faithful remake could be very awesome if done right. With modern graphics (keep the style though!). Doubt it will ever happen though.

I don't understand how making it in "real time 3D" would enable them at all to keep the atmosphere that people enjoyed. Are you talking about what real time 3D usually means, where the player controls the camera like a First Person Shooter and what you end up seeing is like some manic scene from the Blair Witch Project? For me that would pretty much destroy the entire appeal of the game.

While I don't want to make assumption about what the OP said in 2006, I would like to assume that they were talking about simply re-rendering the game's effects and physics using more "advanced" methods.

Anything but a 3rd-person view would be detrimental to the game.

"You've shown your quality sir. The very highest."

A decent remastering could be done if the goals were limited to specifically making it more playable today. This could be as grand a project as overhauling the entire game through making everything render in higher resolution textures and with higher poly count models while still retaining the original atmosphere or it could be as modest as giving it a modern menu interface that would allow for custom resolutions and compatibility so that we don't have to labour just to start the game.

Either way, I think it would be an exciting thing to see, just like the remastered Baldur's Gate was.

I would buy it at the release date. I *beep* love this game! The memories...
