I really want to watch it, but...

I refuse to go with the censored PG-version. Does anyone know where I can find the uncut version online? I did have luck with Limitless and The Ghost Writer once (which also were censored, but I managed to find the unaltered ones).

reply

I'm not aware there are multiple versions in the first place ?

I think they did some minor changes to get a lower rating, but nothing of importance and I'm not aware its even possible to get the unaltered version.

The theatrical release version is hysterical. Watch it!

So there are actually different versions ? I wasnt aware. I have seen the movie in the cinema and I have the DVD - I'm very sure they're exactly identical.

reply

No, no, sorry -- I just meant that the version which was in the theaters, and which is the same as the one on DVD -- is hysterical.

Somewhere way back was a thread about an uncensored version, but I can't remember if people were just wishing for one, or if someone actually found one.

That's really your only option. There has never been any release- official or not- of the unedited version.

Honestly, I think the film works perfectly as-is, and if anything, the addition of profanity/bawdy-humor/extra-violence etc. that was cut would be too much for the pitch-perfect light-hearted tone that the film excels at. They cut it down for a reason.

Trust me, watch it. You'll only really notice the editing once or twice, and it's not enough to ruin it. And you're really only doing a disservice to yourself not watching the film.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

reply

For the record: actually, since my native language is german and I watched a lot of movies synchronized to german in the past, I dont notice such things at all. The actors obviously spelling something different than the actual line you're hearing is just completely normal in such synchronizations, so I'm perfectly used to that and wont notice it even when watching a movie in english (which I usually prefer).

I also think your best option is to get whatever available DVD version.

The original VHS release in the Uk had the f this instead of s this - but it was changed for the dvd.

reply

Yeah, the F-bomb was really the only change as far as I know. I saw it in the theater and remember how obvious Gwen's original line was. I also have the DVD and it's the same as the theatrical release. Really--"Screw this!" does not resemble "F--K this!"

reply

Just watch it. They didn't cut out any alien boobs or anything. It's proof you can make actually still make a great movie that is PG.

When Tim and Sigourney encounter "the chompers," the script had Sigourney/Tawney saying, "Well fuck this!" If you look at her lips on the disc versions, that's what she said. The studio, spineless as an earthworm, dubbed in "screw"'for "fuck." That's the only difference.

But, nonetheless, what a loving homage to Star Trek.

reply

Aah. I think I remember that.
