the funniest line

Does anyone agre with me? "It doesn't take a great actor to recognise a bad one"

reply

"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"

If we're going to die, let's die looking like a Peruvian folk band!

reply

I just finished watching this for the 100th time on my IP's On Demand.
I heard that line again and started cracking up.

Just how non-nonchalant/matter-of-fact she says it, it's too funny.

"...that's the best trick I've ever heard in the history of your bitch-ass tricks!"

reply

I agree,

"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"

"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"

THAT'S IT! I wondered if anybody else got how funny that was . . . in a movie full of funny one-liners. "Don't do that . . . I'm not kidding." "Just like mother used to make." - Sir Alexander Dane (Michael Rickman - one of my all-time favorite Brit actors).

reply

It's ALAN Rickman, not Michael Rickman.

"Home is where they don't want you to leave." (Stephen King, Revival)

reply

Yes!!! The best line in the whole film definitely. Because it shows that even the rest of the assume Guy is going to die before any of them. I always have to pause it at that part I just burst out laughing

reply

This doesn't seem to be on too many people's lists, but it's when Alexander tells Jason to figure out the rock monster's motivation, and Jason replies it's a rock, it doesn't have motivation.

Alexander: That was always your problem Jason, you were never serious about the craft.

You must be the change you seek in the world. -- Gandhi

reply

I like that one as well, and when Alexander says to Jason, after he's been fighting the monster, "well I see you managed to get your shirt off"! I love STTOS and I love seeing Kirk with his shirt half off!
In fact I think if they ever wanted to do another ST sequel, now that sadly Scotty and McCoy are dead and Nimoy and Shatner are getting older, Tim Allen would be a good "mature Kirk". Dont know who could do the others though. Possibly Jim Parsons from B Bang theory could play SPock.

reply

There are so many, but for me it's the opening of the computer store (if you look at the print ads, you can see that they are the exact style of Fry's Electronics ads), "By Grabthars hammer, wh-what a savings..."

My ignore list is much too long for a sig line.

reply

Yes! Nearly everything uttered by Alan Rickman in this movie is funny. The "What a savings" delivery is my favorite.

reply

When Tony Shalhoub gets transported up, his comment, "That was a hell of a thing." cracks me up!

When Tony Shalhoub gets transported up, his comment, "That was a hell of a thing." cracks me up!

Yeah, me too! That whole scene is a funny one!

reply

I like when they're trying to use the transporter device to beam the Captain to the ship. They try on the pig-lizard. The Thermian says, "it's inside out"... then a moment later, "and it exploded". That whole scene is funny.

reply

I used this once to explain how one of our servers crashed. Only one guy in the room got it, and he was fighting so hard not to laugh out loud while everyone else looked confused.

one of my favourites too

There's a scene in THE FORGOTTEN (Julianne Moore) where a character is tied to a chair and being interrogated. The character in the chair says that aliens abducted Julianne's child, then he's very suddenly and violently sucked through the roof - still tied to the chair.

The first time my wife saw that in the cinema, she immediately said, "Now that was a hell of a thing."

There are some very subtle lines in GQ as well. Just before the characters get glooped up to the ship, you can hear the woman Guy is trying to chat up say, "But you live with your mother!"

reply

Yep that's just funny!

reply

So far, I agree with everyone.

My personal fasvorite, "There's a red thingy, headed toward a green thingy. I think we're the green thingy." - Guy

reply

My thoughts exactly. And I love Guy's semi-stoned "I'm just jazzed about being on the show man."

reply

Probably can't get this quote quite right, but I love it when the actors are trying to explain that it's just a TV show -- not actyal archives.... the ailens look confused, and then Gwen starts with.. Gilligan's Island... certainly you don't think...?

Ailens all sigh unhappily... "Oh those poor people...."

(Made even funnier, I think, because Sherwood Schwartz, the GI creator swears that people were sending telegrams to the head of the Coast Guard, saying "go rescue these poor people before they starve to death..."

reply

My favorite too! Sam Rockwell sure knows how to handle a comedic role.

Pretty much anything Alan Rickman says. I always start laughing whenever he says "by Grabthar's hammer"

When Tommy suggests a bird call for the signal and Jason replies, "What are you, an infant?"

Idk why, but that just cracks me up every time. :P

reply

How about at the end when they coming out of the ship announcer says
about allan rickmans character
gibe him a big hand hes british

reply

when Tony Shaloub wlaks away looking at the floor and says...wow....these floors are really clean...it was like a Monk moment

reply

Mine had to be the miners/minors confusion:

Sir Alexander Dane: Could they be the miners?
Fred Kwan: Sure, they're like three years old.
Sir Alexander Dane: MINERS, not MINORS.
Fred Kwan: You lost me.

I just giggle insanely to myself because it's such a great, common homophone issue.

reply

Yes "give him a big hand, he's British!" is good, esp wehn Alan Rickman looks so confused....

reply

So many funny lines in this movie, as people post it just reminds me of how many there are!

Malthazar after they won the fight. "The ship was as big as this." "A very clever deception!"

reply

Same. It's hilarious.

"DO I!? DO I?"

reply

"Look around you, can fashion some form of a rudimentary lathe....GET OFF THE LINE GUY"

reply

IS THERE AIR!!! YOU DON'T KNOW!

reply

In the 1970s porn movie "Flesh Gordon" there's a scene where Dr. Zarkov walks out of the spaceship, takes a deep breath, then says "Good - there's air here."

reply

"IS THERE AIR!!! YOU DON'T KNOW!"

This. This makes me lose it, every single time.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

Probably one of my favorites, especially how he ends it with taking in a big gulp of air and holding his breath.

reply

Yeah, that's a great touch. The whole movie is so incredibly pitch perfect. The writer was a f'n genius. Well, not Einstein genius, but you know.
