UNANSWERED QUESTIONS (SPOILERS)

What was the significance of Felix (the husband) winning the lottery at the end? Will money erase the memory of his wife's betrayal and departure? Why was the vial important anyway? Did he want to implicate Miranda in the murder?

Why didn't Javier recognize his own car when he and Miranda were in it?

Now that Javier realizes he is a killer, what will become of his relationship with Miranda?

I liked the actors (especially Bardem), but the plot was too convoluted, with too many scenarios and characters. The time shifts didn't help either. The ending was strange as well, sort of an anti-climax.

What also didn't help was that there were no English sub-titles for the last five minutes on the dvd (region 1). Luckily there were French sub-titles so at least I didn't miss the final exchange at the airport.

I prefer Almodovar's films--they're convoluted at times but usually come together by the end.

"What was the significance of Felix (the husband) winning the lottery at the end?"

We don't know how much he's won, but the woman says when she hands the ticket back: 'You're a lucky man.' I think he realises he is better without his wife and that he his daughter will be happy together. The new puppy is also an indication of this new beginning.

"Why was the vial important anyway?"

The police had recovered semen residues and pubic hair from the car. He'd put some hair from the family bathroom in the vial to test for a match, because he'd already seen his wife with Javier and had a suspicion about what they might have done.

"Why didn't Javier recognize his own car when he and Miranda were in it?"

He knew the door would be unlocked, but I'm not clear about the chronology myself as to whether the body was already in the boot by then. I think the reason he went to the therapy session is that he had just killed the scriptwriter who was obsessed with him, and for some twisted reason found himself drawn back to the car (although it was the taxi driver who'd dumped the body in it, not Javier)...so I'm not entirely sure what was going on or why.

"Now that Javier realizes he is a killer, what will become of his relationship with Miranda?"

However, when he confronts the scriptwriter in drag, s/he says something about a plotline involving two lovers who die in a plane crash. So maybe it's ironic foreshadowing, and we're to assume the plane is going to crash? There's some significance why the camera lingers on the Ipanema logo on the side of plane, I'm not sure what. Maybe it was the name of an airline which had a plane crash?

Sorry, I guess I'm raising even more questions!
